Plain Funny #17
Issue: # 25 April/2010
Greetings!

Bob  The month of April brings...well, April.  The first day is for fools, the 15th is for taxes.  There's an Easter Bunny somewhere in there as well.  And man, are we busy.  We've seen a goodly amount of interest in Hosted Exchange (the topic of last month's Lunchinar).  And we've been talking to a number of companies about their network issues.  For some reason it seems people want their IT stuff to work.

For April Fool's day I was teaching a class about deploying Windows 7 into a corporate environment.  It's a cool class (actually the second time I've taught it).

Later I'll be speaking at the monthly meeting of the Streetsboro Chamber of Commerce, talking about Infrastructure needs for SMB organizations.

For our monthly Lunchinar, our own John Harrow will actually discuss the needs and benefits of monitoring your network.  Hopefully you'll understand afterwards why we think we're the best solution for that need.

Later in April, I'll be travelling out to Pittsburgh to implement a SQL Admin training program for a well-known retail organization.  About 10 DBA's or so.  We'll start out with an in-house training program, followed by several Live Meeting events over the subsequent weeks.

We're also planning some other interesting projects, including implementing a DFS solution for one client, virtualizing an existing Exchange server using Hyper-V, and migrating a 300+ Exchange environment to Hosted Exchange.

In early May we'll be giving a customized SQL SSRS course for another client as well.  Plus I'll be giving a presentation to the Greater Cleveland PC Users Group about Office 2010.

Part of our strength (in training) is that we actually spend more time doing than training.  So we ain't talking book knowledge here.

Hey, remember when I said last month that our web site will be undergoing a complete overhaul, and should launch mid-month?  Errr...um...I meant April.  Yeah, that's the ticket!

Free Lunchinar reveals "How to Make Your Computer Problems a Thing of the Past"!
It's Simplex-IT Managed Services - SiMS - to the rescue!
Managed Services is a relatively new term in the IT world, having been around for just a few years. Many businesspeople we speak with are unfamiliar with the term and don't know exactly what it means. And those that think they know, well, often don't have a complete understanding.

At this month's free Lunchinar we will define what Managed Services are and explain how a Managed Service Provider - like Simplex-IT - can help both lower your IT costs AND make your network more effective and efficient at the same time!

"But that sounds almost too good to be true", you say. "I must be dreaming! How can that be?!"

You will learn the answers to these questions and more when you join us on Wednesday, April 21st from 11:30-1:00 pm at Hattie's Cafe in Hudson.  While you're enjoying Hattie's fine food and networking with some interesting people, we will explain why Managed Services should be a part of your organization's IT strategy!

Don't miss it! Its free! Either email John or call 234.380.1277 to reserve your space now!
Is your company's IT strategy:  "I've got a guy?"
Bob here.  A lot of companies have an IT support strategy based on "a guy."  An IT guy working full time somewhere else.  The owners' nephew.  A guy who works in the plant but has set up a network of his own in his house.

EVERYTHING in your business rides on your computer network and the data it holds - which is exactly why you can't afford to have an incompetent person managing it. But how can you know for sure if you have the right person? How can a non-technical person know if they are paying for sub-standard support? And how can you make sure you don't find out the hard way after a major disaster erases all your data and brings down your network for a week?

Office 2010 Launch comes to Cleveland...sorta...
But you'd better hurry...
Bob here.  If you've been in IT for any time, you know that when Microsoft puts out a new product update, they usually back them up with "Launch Event," big deal dog and pony shows that include a lot of value on the topic, several hundred people, and some great giveaways (like free software!).

Well, Microsoft is, it turns out having a "Launch Event" in Cleveland on June 3rd.  But it's pretty small, and certain to fill up immediately.  It's actually held at Microsoft's Office in Independence, which means it's going to be limited to probably 75 or so people tops.

Simplex-IT's March Lunchinar on MS Hosted Services

Microsoft's BPOS - Business Productivity Online Suite - was the topic for our March Lunchinar on St. Patrick's Day. And serious interest was evident from the attendance by several leading area businesses.

Microsoft's BPOS consists of Hosted Exchange, SharePoint, LiveMeeting and Office Communications. The advantages are many, including no investment in hardware (everything's in the cloud), automatic softare and patch upgrades, effortless administration, etc. I could go on.

If you would like more information on how your company can benefit from this increasingly popular move to Hosted Services, call us here at Simplex-IT, 234.380.1277. We're happy to answer your questions.

And don't forget our next Lunchinar coming up on April 21 (see above). In fact, why not mark your calendars right now and make plans to join us. We'd love to see you!
Microsoft Licensing got you down?  Let's talk!
It's said there are two types of people when it comes to Microsoft Licensing.  Those who claim to understand it, and those who are correct.  There's no question that it's a complicated issue, especially for small to medium organizations that are trying to figure out their next upgrades.

We can help.  Not only from the licensing standpoint itself, but also from the standpoint of the Licensing specials that Microsoft routinely has running, but doesn't effectively tell you about.

Such as Microsoft's Big Easy promotion.  Microsoft recently extended this promotion, which can result in giving you around a 10% additional rebate, if you purchase your Microsoft software from Partners (such as...wait for it...Simplex-IT).

Give John an email or a call (234.380.1277), and let's set up a time to talk!

Think about how the other side feels
Bob here.  We've probably all played video games at one time or another.  One where the hero of the game (like Mario, as an example) goes up against a huge number of bad guys.  Once we get through them all, we finally go after the "Boss."

Did you ever think about the Boss's point of view on it all?

We'd love to hear feedback about this!  Send comments to Bob@Simplex-IT.com, or call us at 234.380.1277!

Sincerely,

Bob Coppedge
