Plain Funny #13
Issue: # 21 December/2009
Greetings!

Bob  Ok, I haven't heard a lot made of this little fact, but:

The decade is almost over.  And it looks like we've made it.

Many people have recently gone to the movie "2012," which suggests that a Mayan Calendar running out of days spells doom and destruction for us.  Or we're watching various History Channel pieces on doom and destruction (my favorite?  "Nostrodumus:  The Musical").

But the truth is, it's been a tough year, and a tough decade.  And we've apparently survived, hopefully with a better sense of what matters (bite me, Gordon Gekko).

Why do we care about IT infrastructure?
Bob here.  I own a car.  I drive this car.  I use it to transport myself and others from points hither and yon.  I use turnpikes, freeways, garages, roads, and the occasional sidewalk.  I stop at gas stations, obey (mostly) various signs and painted lines on the ground.

And I have no clue how the stuff works.  If my car needs anything beyond gas and a cleaner windshield, it's off to the dealer.  I have no idea how a traffic light works, and don't know what goes into making a good road cement (except for a dash of Jimmy Hoffa, perhaps).

Bob here.  As you may know, we've got a lot of certifications behind us.  And you also know that over the past couple of months we've held many Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 events, showing people just what's under the hood.  So it shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that now we've got the credentials to prove it!

A Little Bit About Simplex-IT...
What we offer in Email Archiving
Today, email is the core business communication channel. Since its inception, email has evolved from a simple intra-office messaging tool to the information and communication backbone of companies of all sizes.

As reliance on email grows, so does the need to ensure its operation as a communication resource and to preserve the information it contains. Excessive data loads, the constant pounding of spam and viruses, unplanned service interruptions and finding pertinent information within the flood of content presents constant challenges for business owners and their staff.

Our email archiving program solves these problems. It can be deployed for any size business to ensure that electronic communication is automatically preserved for intelligent discovery, rapid recovery and continuous access from any location. It operates in conjunction with your existing IT network to ensure the protection, preservation and continuous operation of email communication for your business, while providing on-demand email access for users anywhere and anytime.

Email Archiving provides:
-Email continuity during local email server outages
-Full email disaster recovery from more severe outages
-Rapid retrieval of emails that have been misplaced or deleted locally
-A searchable knowledgebase of a company's intellectual property stored in email
-A rapid means of responding to discovery requests for legal proceedings governed by the new Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
-24/7 accessibility to all stored emails and their attachments
-Storage of all incoming, outgoing and internal email in a secure, encrypted repository for up to seven years

Hardware and Software Trends for Small Businesses
I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving holiday!

I was doing some reading over the long weekend and I came across an article that was really interesting to me. It focused on Information Technology and the trends in small business hardware and software as companies wrap up the current year.

As expected, business owners find IT to be an extremely important and valuable entity in running and operating a successful business.  And, although many plan to be conservative as 2009 draws to a close, even more are looking to upgrade storage, RAM and machinery that is over four years old.  A recent survey concluded that business owners of small companies are planning to invest in and make significant improvements with their hardware and software over the next month.  In fact, 68% said they are looking to implement new hardware by year's end.  Taking things further, 56% of small businesses are planning on new desktops, 55% will be purchasing laptops, 45% new servers, 31% new printers and 27% new network devices.

Tweaking business software is also on the horizon.  Fifty one percent of small businesses plan to upgrade their software by year's end.  Considering all of the new technology that is out there, 32% plan to invest in security and anti-spam solutions, 35% are gearing up for cloud-based security and 44% are embarking on virtual solutions.  Speaking of virtual solutions, it has been reported that 21% of computing within small businesses is already done on a virtual level and 30% of small businesses plan to expand the virtualization they already have in place.

It is great to hear of businesses revamping and upgrading to meet the needs of the company and the economy. So, where does your organization fit with all of this? Will you be making hardware or software changes to your system?  Will you lay-low for a little while longer?  There is a lot of technology to grab hold of - just don't let it pass you by!

Plain Funny #13
Bob's secret is out, but it's for a great cause!

Bob here.  Some of you know that I try to be funny.  Doesn't happen a lot, but hey, I try.

What you might not know is I'm part of an Improv comedy group that performs in Cuyahoga Falls.  The Point of No Return players have been entertaining folks (for the most part) since 2002.

This Saturday, December 5th starting at 7:30pm we'll be performing as a fundraiser for Toys for Tots.  You bring a Toy and you get in free. Or, give $5 for the show, and all monies raised go to Toys for Tots.

So, to recap...you get to see a never-before-seen Improv show at no cost WHILE getting the good feeling of helping bring Holiday cheer to a less fortunate kid.

The show will be at the Quirk Cultural Center, located in Cuyahoga Falls.  And the show will be PG-13, so bring the kids (but you will be expected to leave with them when you leave)!

We'd love to hear feedback about this!  Send comments to Bob@Simplex-IT.com, or call us at 234.380.1277!

Sincerely,

Bob Coppedge
