Issue: # 2 March/2008
Greetings!

Well, we're moving forward from February to March (seemed like a good idea at the time).  Stuff's happening with both Simplex-IT, Microsoft and the NorthEast Ohio IT community.

Bob to address Streetsboro Chamber of Commerce
Bob

Bob to speak at April monthly meeting
Yup, Bob just can't keep quiet (despite of many, many attempts from various folks).

He'll be speaking on Wednesday, 9 April in Streetsboro (more info later this month).  We're in the process of finalizing the material, but we can say these tidbits:

There will be a truck involved.
Windows Server 2008 will be mentioned
Small Business Server 2008 will be mentioned

Did we mention anything about a truck?

For more information, email Bob.

Blogs, both Tech and Biz
 2 Blogs from Simplex-IT
Sam and Bob are both trying to share some of their knowledge by starting not one, but two blogs.  One is aimed at more technical topics (www.Simplex-IT.com/TechBlog).  The other is more business-friendly (www.Simplex-IT.com/BizBlog).
Windows Server 2008 Certs?  Sam Hays gets even more letters to his name
Sams new Cert
 Sam gets his MCTS
Last month you might remember (because Sam's just soooo interesting) that Sam attained his Microsoft Certified Trainer, or MCT certification.

Well, he decided to go one better than that, and got the following Microsoft Windows 2008 certifcations:

MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration
and
MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure Configuration
and
MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure Configuration

(Notice we're talking 2008, so Sam (and Simplex-IT) is one of the first firms in NorthEast Ohio that has certifications for Windows Server 2008.

Bob Adds Letters to his name, too!
 MCITP_RLC

Bob gets his MCITP for SQL Server 2005

Ok, so it's not for a 2008 product (yet), but Bob Coppedge also added to his certification list, with MCITP for Database Administrator on SQL Server 2005.

Bob's experience with SQL, especially with replication, high availability and performance monitoring made this certification a natural for him to go after.

Buy Microsoft Software, get free consulting $!
Microsoft's "Big Easy" an Easy Win-Win
Ok, here's the deal:  Buy your Microsoft software through a Microsoft Partner (like, oh, say...Simplex-IT?).  In return, Microsoft will give you a check made out to that Partner (um...like Simplex-IT?), for you to use with any of the services that Partner provides!

One of our clients recently purchased 4 server licenses and 4 SQL licenses.  They're going to get around $3,000 to spend on Simplex-IT services.  Email Bob for more information, or go to Microsoft's website!
Hurry!  Windows 2008 Launch event in Cleveland is filling up fast!!
Not much time!
We talked about this last month.  As of about a week or so ago, we were told that this upcoming event was about 2/3's full!

 Sign up fast!
Remember last year, when Microsoft Launched Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007?  There was a launch event in Cleveland that filled up fast, and with good reason.  Not only was there great info, but everybody walked away with a full-blown copy of Office 2007.

Well, they're launching stuff again (wow, there's a shock).  And it's a full slate of launches, as always.  Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008.

In Cleveland, the event is on 13 March, and you can register by clicking here.
TechNet: Save $100 on new subscriptions!
 Matt Hester's Gift (sorta)
If you've gone to any of the Microsoft TechNet events, you've probably heard Matt Hester speak.  He is agreat speaker.  He's not afraid to go off script to make a point (actually, try keeping him on script...just try it).  Matt's also a great supporter of the User Group communicty.  Anyway, Matt passed on a special deal that Microsoft has regarding their TechNet subscriptions, and a way that new subscribers can save $100.  All you have to do is use promotion code TMSAM09 when you go to purchase the subscription and it will give you the discount.

Click here to get your TechNet Subscription:

If you have not checked out what you get with a TechNet Subscription here are a few of the benefits:

·         Two (2) complimentary technical support incidents and a 20% discount on additional phone support incidents you purchase.

And of course you still get the TechNet Library containing the Microsoft Knowledge Base, security updates, service packs resource kits, utilities, technical training, and product documentation to keep your systems and IT skills up to date!!!!

We'd love to hear feedback about this!  Send comments to Bob@Simplex-IT.com, or call us at (216) 453-2682!
