ElderCare at Home Offers Year-Round Memory Screenings ElderCare at Home has chosen to follow the Alzheimer's Foundation of America's new initiative by offering year-round memory screenings.
Memory screenings make sense for anyone concerned about memory loss or experiencing warning signs of dementia; whose family and friends have noticed changes in them; or who believe they are at risk due to a family history of Alzheimer's disease or a related illness. Screenings also are appropriate for anyone who does not have a concern right now, but who wants to see how their memory is now and for future comparisons.
These questions might help you decide. If you answer "yes" to any of them, you might benefit from a memory screening.
Am I becoming more forgetful?
Do I have trouble concentrating?
Do I have difficulty performing familiar tasks?
Do I have trouble recalling words or names in conversation?
Do I sometimes forget where I am?
Have family or friends told me that I am repeating questions or saying the same thing over and over again?
Am I misplacing things more often?
Have I become lost when walking or driving in a familiar neighborhood?
Have my family or friends noticed changes in my mood, behavior, personality, or desire to do things?
Note: A memory screening is not used to diagnose any particular illness and does not replace consultation with a qualified physician or other healthcare professional. readers.

Ask the Expert! QUESTION: My parent just received a probable diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. What are the most important things our family should do?
This is a critical but complex question. There is no simple answer. The single most important thing that the patient and the family can do is to think and learn. Recognize that the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, like all dementias, is not a medical emergency. The best approach is a carefully considered, comprehensive approach to the condition. Using Massage to Ease the Elderly's Loneliness I found this very touching article that I thought I would share with you.
"It's not that she was neglected or abandoned by her family. She hadn't been cheated out of a full life, and she wasn't bitter about the cards she'd been dealt. On the contrary, she was a happy, well-loved woman who was full of faith, even after being widowed for more than 20 years. But no amount of faith could keep this elderly woman from being struck with loneliness after sitting alone, day after day, in her new home -- a 12-by-12 room in a full-care nursing facility.
She would rarely let on to her family that the isolation could be overwhelming, but visits started to end with extra-long, extra-tight hugs, and phone calls were a welcome lifeline to the world.now your target audience. Who are your most important customers, clients or prospects, and why? Know what is important to them and address their needs in your newsletter each month. Include a photo to make your newsletter even more appealing". To read the rest of this story, click here!
