Rides for ALS |
| Mercury brewer Ted Cavan will be participating in a three day, 270 mile bike ride from Boston to New York City to help raise money for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research.
ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a neuromuscular disorder that interferes with the signals one's brain sends to the muscles. As the muscles receive fewer and fewer of the brain's signals, they weaken and begin to atrophy. In time a person with ALS will lose the ability walk, talk, eat, and eventually even breathe. During this progression the brain remains 100% functional, allowing the person to be fully aware of their body's deterioration.
Although some 8,000 people are diagnosed with ALS each year in this country alone, there is currently no treatment or cure for the disease.
To help, Ted has teamed up with fellow bikers to raise money for ALS TDI, a Cambridge, MA based institute that is among the world leaders in cutting edge ALS research. They have set a lofty goal of $15,000 and would very much appreciate your support.
Donations from $5 to $5,000 are welcome, and all contributions are tax-deductible.
You can help by donating now!

Beer & Food Pairings: Ipswich Summer Ale |
With such a wide range of flavors and aromas, you can pair beer with food just as wine aficianados have been doing for years. Our Summer Ale, an unfiltered Blonde ale that still retains a subtle hop flavor, goes great with lighter summer foods like chicken, Salmon, and salads.
Don't forget to take advantage of the summer harvest! Pick up some fresh veggies at your local farmstand, mix in some shrimp or chicken for delicious barbequed skewers, and you will have the perfect meal to go with Ipswich Summer Ale. |
