Greetings Collaborative INSIGHTS Readers,
Some of our first issues of Collaborative INSIGHTS, nearly 5 years ago now - gave some snapshots into the communities of Cold Bay, Sand Point, King Cove, Dutch Harbor and their respective supply chain.
We're revisiting the area in this issue and I have to admit I have a special affinity for the region. It may go back to the fact that if my father hadn't been asked to move from California and work "on the chain" in the early 1950's - you likely wouldn't be reading this newsletter. My visits have been brief - a family tour of St. Paul as a guest of Bob Reeve's, a fuel stop in Cold Bay on two occasions to and from Sakhalin - again on Reeve and two trips to Unalaska/Dutch Harbor - you guessed it - seafood!
I have seen family slide shows of the entire region for nearly 50 years now with stories from family friends making a living on or around the area. I hope you enjoy the recap of what's new as much as I enjoy re-connecting with this globally unique part of the world.

False Pass Opens Bering Pacific Seafoods
Regional Development, Knowledge and Opportunity
Bering Pacific Seafoods is one of Alaska's newest seafood plants.
Located in False Pass, a small fishing community, the plant was
designed, built and operated with the intention of being right-sized
and right-missioned for its fisheries and its people. Owned by the
Aleutian Pribilof Island Community Development Association (a CDQ), the
plant just completed its first season processing salmon, halibut and pacific cod.
Ken Smith, Plant Manager, Tina Anderson, Aleutians East Borough (AEB) Clerk, Marvin Mack and Justine Gundersen, AEB Assembly Members and False Pass Mayor Tom Hoblet watching halibut being unloaded inside the new plant.

Fuel Efficiency, Safety - Safety and Flexibility
Ace Expands Services and Routes
ACE Air Cargo is an Alaskan-based air carrier offering both scheduled and charter freight services to a growing list of locations throughout Alaska. It also offers charter passenger services or passenger + cargo on its Beechcraft 1900C.
Ace is based in Anchorage on the tarmac at the Ted Stevens International
Airport. It currently has nearly 60 employees and serves locations in Western, South-Central, the
Aleutians, Pribilof Islands and Southeast Alaska. To those along the supply chain of food and especially seafood it is
important to stay current with their growing list of destinations and
services. More then likely, it will or should fit into your business
strategies now or in the very near future.

Aleutia Becomes First RSDA in Alaska to Represent Two Distinct Fishing Areas
Nearly 5 years ago, the State of Alaska established a mechanism for
local regional harvesters to elect to self-tax and use those funds for
the purpose of promoting and marketing Alaska seafood products
harvested in their region. These self-taxing organizations are called
Regional Seafood Development Associations (RSDA) and allow for regional
harvesters to have a consistent source of revenue to support their
strategic marketing efforts. Just this month, Aleutia, a
regional branding organization was authorized as an RSDA with a
different twist then others approved under the RSDA statutes. More
