Big Messy Art Day!!
Tuesday Sept. 30th- 9:45-11

The HUB's Crafty Kids Playgroup will join Stay & Play children in our playyard and parking lot for a full hour of messy art activiites.

Big messy art day will allow our young artists to dive into new experiences with enthusiasm and energy.  The activities will open the door for everyone to experience art on a grander- and yes, messier- scale with teir entire bodies and minds deeply involved in learning.

Please be advised children will be using most of their body to make spectacular art pieces.  Although we use washable materials we ask that children and parents come in clothes meant for messy play- just-in case!!!
Parent Board
Calling all parents!
Early education programs rely heavily on staff and parents working together to make the program the best for the children. We are hoping that parents will rally together to help Stay & Play with some fundamental aspects of programming. Our goal is to form a group of parents who will assist in:
  • fundraising
  • recruiting volunteers
  • program projects
  • program policies
  • event planning
  • volunteering in the program
  • small maintenance
If you are interested in becoming a member of our Parent Board please contact Taryn Lytle (Kailey & Ashlyn's mom) at: tlytle@hubfamilies.org

Happy Birthday!

Ally and Elli will be celebrating their birthdays in September.  We wish them both a fun filled birthday!
Greetings!

Ahh, a new school year is upon us.  With that we have had to say good-bye to friends who have moved on to new things and we welcome new friends and families joining our program.
This newsletter is our chance to highlight happenings at Stay & Play, share pertinent information, and communicate with families.  Our hope is that this additional form of communication will serve as a good tool to strengthen our relationship with you and your children.  We welcome your feedback and look forward to seeing your family at Stay & Play.

Program News
Schedule Changes
As the new school year begins the staff has come up with a new morning program which allows for more self-directed play, and experiences that help with growth and development.  All children should be arriving at Stay & Play by 9:00.  Children will have an hour of self-directed center play.  Staff will open centers as children show interest in areas. After center clean up, children will have a morning snack, with the opportunity to help each other passing out napkins and cups.  Afterwards children will meet together for morning meeting where staff will lead the group in activities such as music, fingerplays, dancing, stories, talking about specific themes, letters, colors, and friends. Children will then get the opportunity to participate in a developmentally appropriate activity or center based on the themes, colors, and/or letter. Children will than have gross motor time, whether outside or inside.  Staff will allow for free play during this time but also have structured games.  Children in our part-time program will be picked up at noon while full-day children will eat lunch at 12.
The slight changes allow for more opportunities to extend play.  We found there were too many transitions in a short period of time.  The children will enjoy the longer activities and more options for experiencing a variety of activities.

Curriculum Corner

This month our curriculum will focus on textures.  Allowing friends to explore different textures through touch and taste.  The experience of texture results from a complex interaction of the material with our skin.  Texture experiences are vital for children's cognitive and psychological development.  When provided with a variety of textures a child's nervous system is kept healthy and alert.  Children will have the opportunity to explore clean mud , gooey goop and more!
On Sept 4th our activity will be making a soft texture bear.  we invite the children to bring in a stuffed bear from home to share at our teddy bear picnic snack and circle time.
The children will also be learning about apples at the end of the month.  Children will have the opportunity to taste apples, stamp with apples, and cook applesauce and an apple pie!

We start our letter of the week curriculum this month.  Letter of the Week alows for children opportunities for book handling, letter-sound awareness, letter recognition, and pre-reading and writing skills.  Immersing children in letter crafts, poems, and games will build on all developmental domains.  This month we will be introducing letters A,B, and C.  The older children will be starting a word list to be displayed in the circle room.

The color of the month is YELLOW.  we will look for yellow items throughout the class and on the playground.  Children who wear yellow to school will have a chance to show it off at circle time!
We strive to build positive relationships between Stay & Play families and staff.  Please feel free to offer any suggestions that might continue to make our program the best in the area.
Sincerely,
 Stay & Play staff
