Dr. Suess, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Purple, Oval, & Alphabet

This month the children will be learning about Dr. Suess, who is turning 104 on March 2nd. We will be reading some of his books as well as trying out green eggs and ham. Reading to your child is a very important way to  help their imagination expand as well as their vocabulary. We challenge you to read one book to your child a day. The children will also be learning about several holidays this month including St. Patrick's Day and Easter. Children will learn that St. Patrick's Day has a legend about the leprechaun, which they will try catch.  Children will be making shamrock's and their very own gold! While we are learning about Easter the children will have an Easter egg hunt, make pastel eggs, and bunny ears that they can wear.

Staff will continue the letter of the week curriculum, focusing on letters X, Y, & Z. Letter of the week will help children with letter and word recognition, pre-reading and writing skills, and sound awareness. Children will do activities, sing songs, and play games to teach them to recognize and use the letters of the week. Look for X-Ray, Yo-Yo, and Zoo activities. Jay Sheehan will be in to show off some if his Yo-Yo tricks to the children.

The color of the month is Purple.  If your child wears Purple to school they will get to show it off at circle time.

What could be more routine than a trip to the grocery store? Before you had children, you did it hundreds of time without giving it much thought. Now, you have an inquisitive, demanding, hyper, and at times cranky companion along for the ride. Hopefully you are not expecting to get through your shopping in record time, as you did before. If you think you will be making the Olympic shopping team this year, you are bound to be disappointed and annoyed. The trick to getting through the shopping trip with your youngster is to view the experience as an adventure. (Which it will be.) This will set you in the right frame of mind. Making shopping fun for your youngster can actually be an easy task. It just requires some extra time. I know time is limited for everyone, but in the long run the extra time will be worth it. You will both leave the store feeling less stressed.
