Elli makes applesauce

Q:  My 3-year-old only seems to want macaroni and cheese or bagels and cream cheese at mealtime.  What is going on?

A:  While it may seem like your child is only eating pasta and bread, most kids do take in a range of foods of each day (try writing down everything your child eats one day-you may be surprised at the variety...a slice of apple here, a carrot stick there, etc.).  While many parents see their children as picky eaters, the vast majority of healthy babies and toddlers are meeting all their nutrient needs.  So my first piece of advice is to talk with your health care provider to get the assurance that your child is growing fine.

Hay fun Circle Time
Each morning the children spend time as a large group at "Circle Time."  During this time the children participate in a variety of activities that build on language development, name and word recognition, sharing, and listening skills.  Each circle time includes "What's the Weather", who's here today?, thematic song cards and story time.
Some special activities that have been added to circle time include using name cards for children to start recognizing the letters in their own and their friends names.  Danielle has also taught the children a good morning song in Spanish "Buenos Dios."  We have also starting using some sign language for everyday words such as "more", "thank you", and "sad".
The children enjoy circle time so much that some days it can last 25-30 minutes!

Thanksgiving, Alphabet, & Brown

It is November already!  This month the children will be learning about Thanksgiving.  Concepts children will be exploring include turkeys, pilgrims, Native Americans, cooking, and being thankful.  Children will do activities such as paper bag turkeys, Native American headdresses & vests, pilgrim hats, and cooking a variety of food for our Thanksgiving Feast.

Staff will also continue our Letter of the Week curriculum, focusing this month on letters I-L.  Letter of the Week allows children opportunities for book handling, letter- sound awareness, letter recognition, and pre-reading and writing skills.  Immersing children through letter crafts, dramatic play, poems, and games will build on all developmental domains. Watch for Indian Corn, jets, and Kool-Aid painting.

The color of the month is BROWN
If your child wears brown to school they will get to show it off at circle time.
