Arboles Ranch Update ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
![]() This is a picture of that area - kind of a before picture. As the season progresses I hope to show you pictures of this pasture first full of plants and later full of mature vegetables. This is our initial attempt at farming on this scale and we know we will be facing lots of challenges but we are looking forward to our first harvest in late summer.

Spring in Pagosa ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are still in the waiting mode with regards to the River Ranch south of Pagosa Springs that we are trying to purchase. The family members have 2 more weeks to protest the sale but we feel pretty confident that things will proceed to closing. In the meantime Pagosa Springs is bursting with spring fever. The weather is unseasonably warm and dry. While we will surely get another storm or two before the weather settles into the summer mode, we are taking advantage of this lovely weather by starting lots of projects that might otherwise have to wait until May.
It was a very mild winter here in Colorado, and though that offered a break on snow shoveling and snow plowing, ranchers are always concerned that the lack of snowfall and an early melt means that irrigation water will not be adequate for the summer pastures. We will be much more dependent on spring and summer rains to provide the water needed to keep the pastures green. We are trusting God that what we lacked for the winter will be provided for the summer.

Pink Slime ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How interesting to hear about pink slime in the evening news, and to read about it on the internet and in the paper. Most of of us were taken completely by surprise to be informed that the burger from many fast food restaurants and grocery stores that was being touted as 100% pure beef was not exactly as pure as we were led to believe.
The FDA says that pink slime is safe to eat and is truly a beef product. This might be true, but I believe that folks just want the chance to make the choice for themselves, for the use of the product to be revealed on the packaging. It leads us to wonder what else might be incorporated into our food products that also does not have to be listed as an ingredient. Since none of you called or emailed to ask if we use this product, you surely realize that we would never adulterate your meat in any way with additives or preservatives of any kind. We are trying to provide a product that is as close to natural as we can possibly make it. Thank you again for your support.

Heart Surgeon Speaks Out About Heart Disease ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you on statins - cholesterol lowering drugs? I read the book, The Cholesterol Myth, a few years ago and have since been very concerned for all of the folks I know (and don't know) who are taking cholesterol lowering drugs and suffering their many side affects, without knowing for sure if it is all worth it.
If you are on statins, are considering taking statins, or know someone who is taking them, please read the attached article. Folks need to get the truth about the cholesterol myth so that they can make better informed choices to sustain good health. It seems that there is no proof that cholesterol causes heart disease, in spite of what doctors are being told, and are in turn telling their patients. As I am sure most all of you are aware, we must each take the responsibly for keeping our bodies healthy because many doctors do not have correct information and the government cannot be trusted to protect us. We would love to hear your stories or your take on this subject. |

Meat Supplies ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As you are surely aware if you have looked at our website lately, our meat supplies are low and we are struggling to be able to provide a full range of product. We are unable to ship most all of our meat packages because we are out of various cuts needed to fill the orders. At the time of this writing we are out of Beef Ribeyes, Rump Roast, Chuck Roast, Brisket, and Ground Beef, as well as Lamb Kabob and Stew Meat. We are nearly out of Lamb Leg Roasts.
We have animals in for processing right now, and will be taking quite a few more in mid April, but we have another couple of months before our supplies will be fully adequate for the demand. Please bear with us as we transition through this shortage. Also know that you can always put together a Custom Package with the cuts that are available, and that if your package comes to $200 or more you will receive a 10% discount. Once you get the hang of ordering the Custom Package you might actually be even happier with your orders because you will be getting exactly what you want in the quantities you are most likely to use. And if you think of your discount as offsetting most if not all of your freight, it makes it even more attractive.
