Happy New Year!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Years All of us at GrassRoots Meats wish you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year filled with blessings galore. May you have memorable family times, be surrounded by loved ones, and be healthy in mind and body. God bless you all!
IN and OUT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In with the new, out with the old! For GrassRoots Meats it has been a year of growth, travel, and expansion, and 2011 promises to be even better. We hope to "beef up" our operation and branch out into new areas in the coming year, and as this unfolds you will be the first to know.

In 2010 we added chicken to our lineup and brought back the ever popular lamb, and you responded with enthusiasm to both. One day soon we hope to add pork to our lineup, but one step at a time. We are always coming up with great ideas for growing the company and are limited only by our financial resources. It is imperative that we exercise fiscal responsibility in this growth as we want to be here for you in the many years to come. We thank you in advance for your support in the coming year as we partner together to bring continued good health to you and your family.

Amy from Oklahoma sent us the following email the other day, which we found very encouraging and affirming: "Ordering more meat today! But had to share.....I am by no means a "grassroots" mom.....I try to feed my family healthy food. Reality sets in when we are on the go and it's easier to grab something quick. My house has it's share of junk/convenience foods!!!! When I found your website I wasn't out to change the way my family ate....just adding something I felt was much better for us. Well, last week I rented and watched the movie "Food Inc.". Oh my word. I knew (in the back of my mind) this was the situation with our mass produced food. BUT seeing that movie really had an impact on me. WOW! I am so grateful that I have been buying your meat....and will continue for a long time!!! Thanks for providing people with your product!!! " For those of you who have not seen Food, Inc., this is a must see movie that you will truly appreciate. If you have seen the movie, treat yourself to the books by the authors who created it - Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollen, and Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. I cannot recommend them enough. You owe it to yourself to be informed.

Thank you, Amy, and thank all of you. We find it very satisfying to be a part of your quest for healthy foods and we take our role very seriously. You can trust us to do the very best we can to make sure that the meat you purchase from us is not only some of the best tasting you have ever had, but "clean" as well. As far as is possible, within our ability to control it, we are doing everything we can to insure that you are getting the finest product on the market and the best quality that we are able to produce. Thank you all for the trust you place in us. We do not take this lightly and appreciate you more than you could know.

MSG
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know I have talked about this before, but I want to mention it again in light of Amy's email. I have been warning about the dangers of MSG for a long time. Not too long ago my sister became aware that whenever she ate dinner out, and had MSG in her food, she found herself wide awake and unable to sleep in the middle of the night. It was a pattern that was repeated over and over until she realized what was causing her sleepless nights. Now she is an MSG foe and quite diligent in reading product labels.
MSG has been known to cause headaches, stomach disorders, fatigue, depression, anxiety and sleeplessness. Many are suffering needlessly because of so-called "safe" food additives. The primary ones are monosodium glutamate (MSG), aspartame, and L-cysteine. While you may think that you are actually avoiding MSG if you avoid Chinese restaurants, this factory created flavor enhancer is in almost every bottled, bagged, frozen, or canned processed food on super market shelves. But since MSG is often a component of a formulation, it is not labeled as such. You've seen words like autolyzed yeast, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, and whey protein. Each of these substances contain a percentage of glutamate, the harmful component of MSG. Are you aware that monosodium glutamate is used in animal experiments to fatten up mice, enabling researchers to study the effects of obesity? Small wonder that Americans today have so many health problems. For the most complete study and analysis of MSG that I have found, check out the website MSG Truth - www.msgtruth.org. The Weston A. Price website has some excellent articles dealing with this issue. Click on the link below to view them.
Plenty of Stock
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We recently rented an additional walk-in freezer to ensure that we will have an adequate supply of meat to get us through until late spring/early summer. Folks ask us all the time when our meat was processed. Because the meat is vacuum packaged freshness is assured whenever you defrost and open that package of meat - unless the vacuum seal has been broken. We suggest you use those packages first, because their shelf life is more limited.

Vacuum packing extracts the oxygen from the package and it is the air in any package that allows for freezer burn. And because we have a good turnover on all of our products you can rest assured that your meat is "fresh" and wholesome no matter what time of the year that you purchase it.

January Special
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let's just call it the New Year Barnbusting Special! For January we are offering 2 packages of Beef Filets, 2 packages of Eye of the Chuck Steaks, 1 Eye of the Chuck Roast, 2 Chuck Roasts, 3 packages Beef Stew Meat, 5 pounds Ground Beef, 1 package Ground Beef Patties, 1 Chicken Quartered, 2 Lamb Shoulder Roasts, and 2 packages Lamb Shoulder Steaks -- at least 28 pounds of meat -- all for only $185.00. This is a great value with a lot of variety so don't miss this one.
