Rain, Glorious Rain
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wet Grass Allan is VERY happy. I could say he is jumping with joy but that would be truly out of character for him and not a sight that I have ever witnessed in our 37 years of marriage. I think inside though he is doing little cartwheels.
Rain can do that to a grass farmer, especially when he has waited this long for the first moisture of the summer. Our primary lease has irrigation water which helps to keep the grass growing strong even when we experience a seasonal drought, but irrigating involves a fair amount of work and a lot of diligence and time. Our other leases are dry land and we try not to use them until the summer rains begin. Since getting a gentle, steady late afternoon rain daily for a week now these pastures are coming on strong and are nearly ready to put cattle in. Yahoo! I guess that is the best word I can think of to describe our reaction. We thank God every day for His provision, for the smallest of blessings that He showers on us (pun intended).
"Like Us" on Facebook
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are trying to get our social networking act together. It is not a straight path upward as I have experienced many hills and valleys in the road trying to understand how it all works. Why do these things that seem second nature to the young present such challenges to us older folks?

We have a presence on Facebook and would so appreciate it if you would "Like Us." If you don't understand what that means, first set up a Facebook account on www.facebook.com, then click on the link below. Once you find us, there is a place to select that you like us. This will offer us another way to keep in touch, and a chance for you to communicate with us and other GrassRoots fans more easily.

The Lambs are Coming
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We hope to have some of our lambs ready for sale by the end of September. If you want to be assured that you will be able to purchase this yummy meat get your orders in now.
We had to make some price adjustments on the lamb that you can see on the website. The price for whole and half lambs did not change, but some of the prices on retail cuts and the packages did change. Settling into a pricing structure that works, and that assures that we will be able to provide the lamb to you in the future, has been quite challenging. Barring a significant change in the market I think that we should be able to hold tight on these prices for a long while. Keeping up with the demand has been challenging and we are working hard to do just that.
Beef Package Changes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have reworked the Beef Packages just a bit, basically adding a few more pounds per package to make the shipping more cost efficient. The prices actually came down on a few, and went up slightly on others. We added a new package, the Griller's Choice, in an effort to keep a smaller package available. We also added a Junior Ground Beef Package of just 20 pounds to give you another option for a discounted price on the Ground Beef.

A couple of the prices changed on the beef but for the most part they are the same. Our primary goal in all of the changes was to make shipping better for you and to expand the selection of the packages. We want and need your feedback, so please feel free to comment on the changes.

August Specials
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Specials Picture Ask for our TOO HOT SUMMER SPECIAL -- 41 pounds of meat for the amazing low price of $245 - and receive a bottle of our ever popular GrassRoots Meat Seasoning FREE and receive a FREE GrassRoots T Shirt (be sure to let us know what size you would like - adult S through XL). Or how about Beef Chuck Eye Steaks for $5.99 per pound? WOW - that is a savings of $3.00 per pound! The Eye of the Chuck Steak is cut from the prime section of the chuck area and is packed with flavor. It can have some sinew running through it, but the meat itself is so tender, juicy and delicious that it is well worth the small effort of cutting around the sinew. And at $5.99 per pound it is a bargain you don't want to miss!
Last month we sold out of the oxtail special within two hours of the newsletter going out! Looks like we are not the only folks out there who love oxtail soup. It is so encouraging to get a great response to our specials. We hope that you enjoy getting the price breaks. Thanks so much for your support of all we do because you are the reason we are able to make this wonderful business work. Hope you are having a great summer.
Lois, Allan, Lisa & Family
