Double Your Dollars!
| |
Did you go shopping on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?
Many people did. All of them were looking for a bargain, a way to make their money go farther.
Here at UM Cooperative Ministries, we do the same. And during the holiday season, we've found a way to double your dollars!
An anonymous donor (let's call him Santa) has offered to match all donations made during the month of December! For every dollar you give to support the programs and projects of Cooperative Ministries, our program participants get twice the value.
Just think, if you donate $50, and Santa donates $50, our program participants get $100 value in service!
That's enough to support a child in the Children of the World Preschool for about 1/2 a week, or in P.A.S.S. Tutorial Program for a month, or in the Families Learning Together program for 3 months. It's enough to pay an overdue water bill, so that a family isn't evicted, or buy food for a family of four for a week.
Please consider making an end of the year gift to Cooperative Ministries. If you do, thanks to Santa, you'll make twice the difference in a person's life!

Share the Dream Celebration is a Success
| |
Students from the Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten class at the Children of the World Preschool in St. Petersburg provided an enthusiastic opening to United Methodist Cooperative Ministries' "Share the Dream Celebration" on November 17 at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Each little face beamed as they sang "This Land is Your Land", complete with lively hand motions and dance moves, for the 200 guests. Mistress of Ceremonies, Yolanda Fernandez of WFLA News Channel 8, explained that attendees at the event held a shared dream, "that all children will live in peace, have plentiful food and safe shelter, and get a good education." Ditty Bag Thanks |
On November 12, downtown Dunedin and the local community joined in at our Community Service Day. Held at First United Methodist Church of Dunedin, the event drew over 60 volunteers who counted, sorted, and packed 500 Ditty Bags for homeless men, women, and children. More than 3,000 ditty bags were distributed later that day to the homeless serving agencies listed here.
A special thanks goes to the office of Dr. David Zabrocki, DDS, of Largo, who came through in the nick of time with toothpaste when our previous arrangements fell through. Thanks also to Trinity United Methodist Church, Bradenton, for their donation of warm socks, Dr. David A. Brown, DMD, for toothbrushes and toothpaste, Travelodge of Clearwater Beach for shampoo and conditioner, Tops Motel of St. Petersburg for toothpaste, and Walmart of Largo and Walmart Neighborhood Market of Dunedin for gift cards to buy needed items.
Thanks also go, as always, to the wonderful women of the United Methodist Women of the Gulf Central District. Their leadership makes the project strong!
Thank you also to First UMC of Dunedin and all of the volunteers there who made the day possible. You were fantastic!
