| Greetings! |
Do you consider yourself an encourager? You know, a cheerleader-type who urges others on and gives them a big pat on the back when they are successful?
People who take say encouraging things and celebrate with us when we do well are great to have in our lives. But if rah-rah thoughts don't naturally come into your head and out of your lips, does that mean you don't encourage others?
Absolutely not! While motivating words are helpful, motivating actions speak loudly, too. If you volunteer your time to help others, you are an encourager. If you give of your financial resources to help others gain a better life for themselves, you're an encourager. Doing for others and giving for others lifts burdens from their shoulders, and their spirits are lifted, too.
This past week, I explained to a low-income single mother that her daughter was able to come to our Summer Learning Camp for free because others who cared about her had given their money to make it possible. Tears came to her eyes as she asked, "Who cares enough to do that for my daughter? I'd like to meet this kind person." When I explained that many of our supporters had made this possible, not just for her daughter, but for 40 children, she was amazed. You can imagine what a wonderful feeling she has about living in a community that cares so much for her family. Now that's encouragement!
