Union Street UMC Volunteers Needed for Hispanic VBS at Union Street

Volunteers are needed to assist with the first ever Vacation Bible School for bi-lingual children at Union Street UMC in Clearwater, July 16-20th.  According to UMCM's Executive Director, "All of us can remember the joy and fun we experienced in our lives attending a Summer Vacation Bible School.  For many it was where we first learned about our faith and how to apply that to our young lives.  For others it was a safe place where we were loved, nurtured and introduced to the life of the church.  So many children in our neighborhoods today have little or no exposure either to the faith or to a loving church family.  Here is a great opportunity for churches to join together and help provide a witness to children in need."  If you, your youth group or Christian education department would like the opportunity to make a difference in a child's life by volunteering to assist with VBS please contact, Pastor Nancy Mayeux at Union Street UMC in Clearwater at 727-442-9300 today!

Feeding Teams Report Homelessness on the Rise

UMCM Feeding Teams report that over the last month they have seen a dramatic increase in the number of working poor and homeless seeking a hot evening meal at our St. Vincent de Paul Feeding Ministry in downtown St. Petersburg.  Doug Brown, Feeding Ministry Coordinator reports, "Usually our teams feed seven nights a week between 200 to 225 persons but now we are serving 270 many nights!  This is putting a real strain on our teams in regard to not only volunteers needed from the churches but on their financial resources to buy, prepare and serve nutritious food.  The price of food has gone up so more financial resources are needed to meet the growing need."

UM Churches currently involved in UMCM's Street Ministry/Feeding Ministry are Pinellas Park, Palm Harbor, Oakhurst, Clearview, Heritage, First St. Pete, Gulfport, St. Luke's, Allendale and Riviera.  If you would like to help our feeding teams financially to meet their growing needs donations may be sent to UMCM, 1625 Union Street, Clearwater 33755 with a notation Homeless Feeding.

Doug also reports that the ministry needs new men's T-Shirts in medium or large and toiletries (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, tooth brushes).  These items may be dropped off at Pinellas Park UMC.  Please mark them for Street Ministry.

A religious man is a person who holds God and man in one thought at one time, at all times, who suffers harm done to others, whose greatest passion is compassion, whose greatest strength is love and defiance of despair.
