| A Newsletter from SACC Washington DC | Volume 30, Revised Version, June 2012 |
Dear Members and Friends,
Summer is here and our Chamber will be going through some big changes. Our Executive Director for the past the five years or so, Maja Persson, is leaving SACC-DC to move to Panama with her family. On behalf of SACC-DC, I would like to express my great appreciation for her hard work during these somewhat challenging years and for all that she has done for our organization. We will miss Maja a lot and wish her and her family the very best of luck on her next adventure in Panama.
Last week I had the great pleasure to visit Sweden for a full week while participating in a trade mission with the Governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell. SACC-DC and SACC-USA played an instrumental role in setting up a program for the Governor who met with many Swedish companies during his three-day-visit that covered Stockholm and Gothenburg. Especially notable was the gracious hosting of Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, by our U.S. Ambassador to Sweden, H.E. Mark Brzezinski and his wife, Natalia, who opened up their residence to well over 100 guests and were so generous with their time and made all feel so welcome. When all the meetings were over on Friday, I experienced the traditional Midsummer celebrations at Skansen in Stockholm under clear blue skies. For any of you who have not visited Sweden this time of the year, I can highly recommend it. Don't count on too much sleep though, as the sun just never seemed to set and one could easily be active outdoors until close to midnight.
As usual, our Chamber will slow down during the summer months and start up again around Labor Day just in time for the big Crayfish celebration. Mark your calendars for September 13th and register as soon as you receive the invitation in your mailbox since this event always sells out.
Last but not least I would like to welcome our new Executive Director, Anna Lohmeyer, who will join us towards the end of August. Anna is coming back to Washington, DC with her family after spending the last three years in Sweden and we look forward to working with her. Another important individual this fall will be Sophie Holmberg who joins us from Umeå University as our new trainee.
Let me also express a big thank you to Malin Vikström, our trainee during the last year and a true superstar. We wish Malin the best of luck with her continued studies and hope that she will continue to be active in our organization.
I wish you all a nice and safe summer. See you again in September!
Sincerely,
Bradley J. Olson

ECAPS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SSC (previously the Swedish Space Corporation), is a world leader in reduced hazard space propulsion, often referred to as "green" propulsion. ECAPS' High Performance Green Propulsion (HPGP) technology offers a family of Ammonium DiNitramide (ADN) based storable monopropellants, propulsion systems and thrusters for satellite and launch vehicle applications. This unique propulsion technology provides a simple method for transitioning away from today's highly toxic hydrazine systems, by allowing existing propulsion system architectures to be leveraged. HPGP technology, using the monopropellant LMP-103S, has been successfully flight-proven on the PRISMA mission (www.prismasatellites.se/about-prisma.aspx) and shown to both eliminate the need for hazardous procedures during spacecraft fueling and to provide better on-orbit performance than monopropellant hydrazine. The multiple benefits of HPGP provide opportunities for significant life-cycle cost savings for satellites requiring in-space propulsion systems.
On the US market, ECAPS is represented by the two individual partners ATK and Moog.
