| A Newsletter from SACC Washington DC | Volume 22, June 2010 |
Dear Members and Friends,
As you may have already learned, Gunilla Girardo, President of SACC-USA, has tendered her resignation and will be leaving SACC-USA over the summer. As one who has gotten to know Gunilla over the years, I can tell you she has done a tremendous job for both the SACC-USA parent organization and for the regional chambers. Our SACC-DC organization will proceed uninterrupted during the SACC-USA transition period, and we have many exciting business and social events already scheduled as detailed below. We will miss you Gunilla and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors! E-Days Gothenburg: The 2010 Sweden E-Days will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden on November 8-10. SACC-USA has worked very hard to arrange for key speakers, exhibitors, seminars, business matchmaking, and many other opportunities, to engage in valuable international networking. Moreover, on November 10, there will be even more of the successful and always popular industry deep-dive programs. Companies and partners in the areas of sustainable transportation, logistics & shipping, waste management and biogas production, including alternative energy solutions, green buildings & community planning for a sustainable development, will all meet together for a full program and local industry site visits. For more information visit http://sacc-edays.org/goteborg/. Don't miss out this year! We look forward to an intensive and activity rich fall season. We will also likely have a least one political roundtable event in view of the upcoming elections that will take place in both the U.S. and Sweden. On behalf of all of us, we welcome our new members and wish to thank all current members for their renewals and contributions to our chamber's success. We hope to continue providing you with value in the form of interesting and entertaining networking events and welcome your thoughts on how to make our chamber even better. Please have a happy and safe summer!
Sincerely,
Bradley J. Olson

Beyond the Line - Green Business Luncheon
Bill Meiswinkel, Kathleen Matthews, David Richardson |
On June 22nd SACC-DC and the Wharton Club of DC jointly organized a green business roundtable luncheon generously hosted by architectural firm Leo A. Daly in downtown Washington, DC. The event started with a screening of material from the Swedish-American movie Beyond the Line - Turn the Risks of Climate and Environmental Change into Compelling Business Opportunities. The screening was followed by a panel discussion led by David Driscoll, Project Coordinator for Beyond the Line. The three panelists represented companies featured in the movie and included Kathleen Matthews of Marriott International, Bill Meiswinkel of IKEA and David Michaelson of Marion Construction.
The panelists discussed how 'going green' will drive profit for a company in many ways as via energy savings and tax incentives. Other issues included the importance of being proactive as a company and finding good partner organizations to work with such as WWF. All panelists provided great examples of how seemingly small changes have resulted in dramatic reduction of environmental impact and at the same time produced large economic savings for the company.
