The SACCess
A Newsletter from SACC Washington DC  Volume 19, September 2009

Dear Members and Guests,

Welcome to the fall issue of SACCess.  We especially wish to welcome your return to the excitement of another back-to-work/school period after a hopefully relaxing summer break. I know that many of you were able to take industrisemester (industry holiday) and retreat to the family sommarstuga (summer cottage) to enjoy a slower and restful summer period with your family. Other members of SACC-DC took holiday on such varied locations as southern Gotland, with its wild and bohemian character. Others, such as myself (Brad Olson), sought weekly refuge on a small boat on the Chesapeake or took lessons prior to driving an actual NASCAR race car in Charlotte, North Carolina at speeds in excess of +160 mph (+257.4 kph). I also had the opportunity to attend the SACC-USA board meeting held at the E-Days special event in Karlskrona, Sweden. In general, I can report that each chamber is doing its best to provide services to its members under challenging conditions. Notably, we now enjoy the position of being the largest chamber chapter in the SACC-USA network in view of SACC-New York's decision to take a new membership status.

Unfortunately, circumstances stemming from the economic downturn prevent us from offering our crayfish party this year. We do plan to hold it next year. However, we are looking forward to a great official start to our fall program with the arrival of our annual SACC-DC Golf Tournament on October 8, 2009 at Old Hickory Golf Club, with reception to follow at Amb. Hafström's official residence. Our Executive Manager, Maja Persson, worked especially hard this year along with our Golf Committee to secure sponsors for our tournament. We are therefore quite pleased to announce that Nammo AS has elected to become our Platinum sponsor for this year. Thank you Nammo for your kind generosity! Note to all members, we still have a few "hole sponsorships" remaining, which for the relatively modest sum of $500, you or your company can have its name on that hole and be featured in the promotional materials (not to mention how much it would help SACC-DC's coffers).

As you are now aware, Sweden assumed the EU Presidency on July 1st and, to no one's surprise, has taken an active major leadership role in policymaking on a variety of issues in the EU and globally. As you will see below, several events are planned for the fall with a direct or indirect connection to the EU Presidency. We hope that you can find the time to attend one or more of these events in this fall, as we promise that your enjoyment of belonging to SACC-DC will increase as you invest more time in participating while broadening your professional network. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Best regards,
