Normal everyday radioactive gaseous releases from reactors like Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station are filtered. But in a severe accident releases of very large concentrations of radioactive gasses are NOT filtered. This makes no sense.

It does not look like the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is going to require Pilgrim, and the other similarly designed reactors, to install filters - unlike regulators in Sweden, France, Romania and Japan. Why not the NRC? Could it be that the industry does not want to spend the money? It is all too apparent that public safety is not a priority for the NRC.

If you do not want to risk being radioactive tomorrow, you better get active today. Contact your local, state, and federal officials and ask them to pressure the NRC to put our safety over industry's pocketbook and require filtered vents; and while you are at it, why not ask the press to cover this story?

"The opening exceeded our expectations," CCBW Co-founder Attorney Meg Sheehan told the Old Colony Memorial newspaper. "It was an exciting evening and attendees included Rep. Tom Calter and a representative from Congressman Keating's office. There were many new faces, as well as long-time supporters from around the region."

Pilgrim 14 Trial Set for Feb 25, 2013
Support Pilgrim 14 The case against the Pilgrim
14 moved forward Sept. 5 as the defendants returned to Plymouth District Court for a quiet appearance on motions for discovery. The group remains committed to seeing the case through and returns to court Nov. 15 for motions. A trial date has been set for Feb. 25, 2013.

The Pilgrim 14 were arrested on May 20, when coalition member Cape Downwinders held a rally outside Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth to protest operator Entergy-Louisiana's relicensing application. Some of the participants were arrested and charged with trespassing when they attempted to deliver a letter to Entergy-Louisiana which asked the chairman to withdraw the license for renewal. The nuclear power plant received approval for its new 20-year license a few days later.

The Pilgrim 14 now stands at 12. On July 11, two others, due to personal reasons, accepted the court's offer to dismiss trespassing charges against them if they paid $100 in court costs.
