Greetings!

Psi Iota Xi Receives Award from ISHA

During a recent ceremony March 29, Debbie Harman, President of Indiana Speech and Hearing Association (ISHA), presents a FRIEND of ISHA award to Psi Iota Xi. The award is presented to organizations, agencies, or individuals outside of ISHA who perform acts and conduct activities which are particularly instrumental in advancing the welfare of ISHA, supportive of the professions comprising its membership and of persons with communication disabilities. Pictured here, Margaret Larson, PIX National Editor, accepts the award on behalf of all our Psi Iota Xi members. Margaret was also presented a personal FRIEND of ISHA award for her many years of serving coordinating a variety of activities between Psi Iota Xi and ISHA.

ISHA award Cathy, Margaret and Susie

Cathy and Susie joined Margaret at the ISHA Convention in Indianapolis. It was a very proud moment for Psi Iota Xi.  When Debbie Harman asked how many in the audience had a connection with Psi Iota Xi more than 100 hands shot in the air.  Their connections? Some were Psi Otes while others had received benefits from Psi Iota Xi in the form of a scholarship or the purchase of needed equipment. It is amazing how far our arms have stretched to help those less fortunate.  While some of us may be famously known as the "Cheese Ball" ladies -- we should be proud of how we have impacted the lives of many.

A Note from the Editor!

Important Piece of the PuzzleLadies, the National Convention is just around the corner! What part of the puzzle will you learn about at convention.  President Janice and her chapter members are anxiously awaiting to put those Psi Ote pieces together.

Your delegates should be chosen and your registration completed by May 15th. There will be a lot of important information about our new Psi Iota Xi website, so be sure your delegates take all of this information back to your chapter.

It is imperative that each PIX member with internet access is registered on the website and that she uses her preferred e-mail address to be sure to get the monthly newsletter and other important mailings that will be sent to each registered member!  Also, please remind all who have not registered to use their first and last name -- this will be important information when we are able to merge our mailing list with our current data base.

Some chapters have not yet claimed their portion of the website.  If you have questions about individual chapter "claims," please contact me or your District Officer. This is your area to toot your chapter's horn. Those surfing the web can find you either by city, chapter or zip code.  If you are currently updating your own website, add a link to your chapter page on our website so visitors can "click" right to your site. Even our project representatives are excited about linking to us. So click away and explore the vast number of opportunities.

As you may already know, we must build our membership, and this piece of technology is our best marketing tool. next to you! Each time you look at the site you will find new things. Be sure to share the information with your colleagues who may be interested in joining.

Volunteer/Social Opportunity for Better Hearing and Speech Month

On April 30th, please help Hear Indiana kick off May is Better Hearing and Speech Month! Hear Indiana, a chapter of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, empowers and supports individuals and families with hearing loss who communicate through listening and spoken language.

Hear Indiana believes in early detection, intensive amplification, and ongoing intervention. This organization offers informational resources, educational programming, support for families and professionals, and advocacy in areas related to listening and speaking. Hear Indiana also hosts the only camp in Indiana designed specifically for children with hearing loss who use spoken language to communicate.

Carmel Group at Camp!

There are two ways to get involved. Log-on to TalkWalkRun.com to register and sign-up to join Team Psi Iota Xi. In Indianapolis on April 30th, Psi Ote sisters will walk together in support of Doing Deaf Differently! Stay and mingle at the Post-Race Party (free food, music, kids' games, and a FREE Kids Fun Run). Don"t forget to wear your PIX shirts!

If you live too far from Indy, you can sign-up as a Virtual Walker, and Hear Indiana will send you a FREE Talk Walk Run shirt!

Your chapter may also be interested in making a monetary donation via TalkWalkRun.com. All proceeds support Hear Indiana programming, including our Youth Leadership Camp for children with hearing aids or cochlear implants. Our goal is for Team Psi Iota Xi to raise $650 (to cover one camp scholarship).

Thank you in advance for supporting Hoosiers with Hearing Loss. As Executive Director of Hear Indiana, I personally hope to meet you all on April 30th! As you know, with today's technology most individuals with hearing loss can listen and speak. Help us celebrate Doing Deaf Differently!
