My Journey

E-Letter by Pamela Anderson

December 15, 2011

Ladies,

It was October of 2010 when I began reading the book Created to be His Help Meet - Discover How God Can Make Your Marriage Glorious. As I mentioned last week, I was not prepared for what God would reveal to me through the concepts presented in this book.

The book starts by referencing Genesis 2:18, which is the basis for the name of the book. In the King James Version (the version used exclusively in this book) it reads, "And the Lord said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him".

Now I had read this verse many times over the years, and honestly didn't give it much thought. So I began researching on my own. Bible commentators agree that the Greek translation for the term "help meet" means a helper fit for him, or a suitable helper for him. Now, the important thing to understand is that the "him" that the Bible is referencing here is Adam, the man soon to be Eve's husband.

What this scripture is saying is that Eve was created to be a helper suited to Adam's needs. So, what exactly did that mean? And most importantly, what did it mean to me as a wife today?

I was driven to understand this more, to see what the Bible had to say as my role as a wife. I began looking up the meaning of words in the dictionary - I was determined to gain my own understanding and not accept someone else's opinion as fact.

I prayed and asked God to given me wisdom about what He was trying to show me. As I did so, other scripture about this subject came to light. Scripture from the New Testament such as, "For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man" (1 Corinthians 11:8-9).

I have to admit that I became a bit overwhelmed with all that I was learning, but continued on the course. I would soon discover a multitude of scripture that would clearly reveal to me my role as a wife. Everything I was learning was contrary to what women are being taught in society today. I also realized that the majority of women I've spoken with over the years were not happy and their marriages were going down the tubes.   Could it be that what society is teaching women (feminist in particular) contains nothing but empty promises?

I will tell you more next week in My Journey.
