  "Z-Man" Award

OHIO ALERTMark Y. Zylawy, "Z-Man", a highly regarded Portland police officer, died January 27, 2008 in a tragic and untimely accident at the age of 40. He worked as a district officer in Northeast Portland for 17 years with passion, dedication and enthusiasm throughout his career.
.

Kenneth Lester, EVOC Coordinator at the Ontario Police College said this about Mark:

In the small amount of time that we knew Mark, it was quite noticeable that his passion was Police Driver Training.  He was a true advocate of innovation and improvement.  He was also very outspoken with his positive views on networking with other training personnel, to always

ensure that we were all using the latest and most innovative training material available.  He knew that this was made possible by simply getting together and sharing ideas, including training triumphs and failures.

.

In memory of Mark and what he stood for in regards to Emergency Vehicle Operations Training, ALERT International has set up the ALERT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.  This award is presented on an annual basis for the best innovative idea in Police Driver Training in the past year.

.

The 2011 winner was the Winnipeg Police Service Vehicle Operations Program and at the 2012 National Conference, we will be selecting the 2012 winner.

.

Do you know a unit worthy of this prestigious award?  Please e-mail us the details at: info@alertinternational.com. The deadline is August 1, 2012.

Member Sharing

A top priority for ALERT under the current Executive Board is methods for memberships to share information and ask questions.  This is truly one of the most important aspects of what ALERT needs to be.  We quickly launched a message board after the elections last year along with Apps for the Android and I-Phone but that Board has been plauged with issues.  Mostly with "spammers" so we have temporarily suspended member sign ups on the Board.  Our team is working hard to bring a sharing resource to you and as soon as we do, we will let you know in an upcoming Newsletter.  We thank you for your patience in this matter.

A.L.E.R.T. International is dedicated to the encouragement and correlation of research and development as well as the sharing of information, ideas and innovations in the area of emergency vehicle response operation. Additionally, A.L.E.R.T.'s mission is to provide assistance to states in establishing effective and defensible standards for employment and training of law enforcement officers in the field of emergency vehicle operations. Another aspect of the mission is the promotion of a positive, professional image of emergency response trainers.
