Shalom!

This week, students journeyed to the Wisconsin Science Festival where they held live bugs and hunted for fossils in rocks from Israel.   Back at school, older students prepared for Sukkot, which starts this Sunday evening, by learning how to make a sukkah and also how NOT to make a sukkah.

The Torah teaches us that we are meant to be particularly happy on Sukkot--"v'hayita ach sameah"!  We're excited to welcome Shabbat and to shake our lulavim together next week!

Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameah!

Photos of our Week
Here are some photos from our school trip to the Wisconsin Science Festival
which is being held at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery.

While we were there, we ran our friend Laura Heisler, WID Director of Programming, who was a very busy person that day!  She took time out to teach us that the floors of the building are made from stone from Machtesh Ramon in Israel and she showed us how each tile is contains at least one fossil.   MJCDS students had fun hunting for the fossils inside these stones from Eretz Yisrael!

Older students especially liked the 3-D simulation, while younger students drove a robot and learned to 'invent' the squirt gun using household materials.  The biggest hit among all age groups was the entomology stations as you can see from the last two pictures below!   (Click here for more photos.)

Check out these Sukkah designs

Click here to see a gallery of creative approaches to building a sukkah.  Not all of them are meant for outdoor use, like the Lego version pictured here.  :)  The link does include, however, a picture of a BIG outdoor lego sukkah and a video of a winning designs from Sukkah City built in New York's Union Square.  Enjoy and Chag Sameah!
