| Shalom! | |
Happy Birthday, Israel! This week Israel turns 64, and today we had a number of exciting visitors in our classrooms: Golda Meir, Theodore Herzl, an Israeli soldier, the Israeli Flag, and other guests all came by to talk with the children.
Todah Rabbah to Rabbi Jonathan Biatch, Larry Cohn, and Maya Pnei-Gil for using their formidable acting skills and historical know-how to help history come alive for the students.
Hope you can join us on Sunday at the Goodman Campus as our students participate in Madison's community wide celebration of Israel's birthday! Details are below.
Shabbat Shalom!

| Happy Birthday, Israel! |
Blue and White, Sixty four, How can you be independent? How do you show respect?
Those are some of the topics our MJCDS students addressed this week. All of our students practiced for their Sunday, April 29 Yom HaAtzmaut Celebration at the Goodman Campus.(Performance time: approximately 3 pm.)
This week students learned a bit about Israel's history, heard and stood for the siren that is sounded on Yom HaZikaron, learned songs, wrote small pieces in the upper grades, and shared items from Israel.
With Maya's great input our students had many laughs as they played typical Israeli childhood games. We thank her and we thank Romy Arenson who came in and did a special art project with our kindergarten students.
To say that the week went quickly is an understatement! To say that it was joyous though is to state the truth. We also thank all who helped including Rabbi Biatch, Larry Kohn, Geri, and Marla. We also thank Dr. Carimi for coming in to share time with the 3/4 grade students.
His visit was part of our upper grade Madison Mensch program.
We hope to see everyone this Sunday for our school performance!

| Todah Rabbah! |
Todah Rabbah--a massive thank you to Alice Schneiderman, Gala chairwoman, and to Rokker Schneiderman for producing a fun and successful night benefitting MJCDS last Sunday!
Special thanks as well to Judy Schreiber for her time, expertise and support.
We are grateful as well to Mitch and Barbara Wand for sponsoring the musical stylings of the Groove Masheen, and to all of our vendors and community supporters who so generously donated auction items (and who even bought a few themselves!).
Finally, thanks to everyone who came--your presence made it a special and fun night for the MJCDS community.

| Science Snapshots | |
Kindergarteners show off their push/pull inventions. Learning about how objects move, students illustrated the inventions on paper, wrote about them, then used recycled material to create models.
Third and fourth graders wrapped up their unit on sound by creating their own instruments from household objects. Each instrument needed to be able to produce at least three distinct tones. Here, Debbie plays Three Blind Mice on her new flute.
