Shalom!

Hanukkah is a special time at MJCDS. Each December, our students go out into the Madison community to visit with and perform for local seniors.

On Monday, students visited Oakwood and Wynwood senior communities, where they sang and visited with residents.  Later in the week, students created gifts for their families, explored the Madison Children's Museum and had their final swim lessons of the year.

We're looking forward to kicking off winter break together this weekend, as families gather for a Havdalah and Hanukkah party.  Have a wonderful break and a Happy New Year!

V'Hadarta Pnei Zaken:  Honoring our Elders
The Torah teaches us, V'hadarta pnei zaken, Show kindness to your elders (Vayikra/Leviticus 19:32).

On Monday, students practiced this mitzvah and served their community by visiting Oakwood and Wynwood senior residences.  Students prepared for the visits by creating homemade holiday gifts, writing letters, and practicing Hanukkah songs.

At the residences, students performed and then visited with audience members, distributing the gifts they had made, reading stories, and chatting together. Watching our students visiting with these new friends was inspiring.

We could not have been prouder!
