Welch Road Update: WORK SHIFTS ON 9/17

Dear Friends of the SUMC Renewal Project,

We are pleased to announce that the first half of the Welch Road Utility Project (WRUP) is nearly complete. Efforts are currently underway to finalize work on the inboard side of Welch Road as the crews prepare to shift work to the other side of the street next week.

On Monday, September 17, 2012, construction work on WRUP will shift from the inboard side to the outboard side of Welch Road.  Welch Road will continue to serve as a one-lane, one-way road going West from Quarry Road to Pasteur Drive. The direction of traffic will not change.

The K-rail (concrete construction barriers) will be shifted slightly and traffic will transition to the inboard side of Welch Road prior to the morning commute on Monday, September 17.

Access will be maintained in and out of the Welch Road properties. However, the driveways off of Welch Road to 700, 730, 750 and 770 Welch Road will remain closed. Access to these properties will remain via Vineyard Lane.

New sidewalks on the inboard side of Welch will be open and new pedestrian pathways are being created to facilitate access in and out of the outboard Welch Properties (700-1180 Welch Road) during this time.

Signage will be in place to assist with both vehicular and pedestrian wayfinding. Information Ambassadors will also be stationed along Welch Road on Monday, September 17 through Wednesday, September 19 to provide extra assistance.

The Welch Road Utility Project is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2013. After this time, Welch Road will return back to a two-lane, two-way road.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to complete this vital step in ensuring the underlying functionality of the new medical facilities.
