Go Wild About Reading

Salisbury Zoo, May 3; 6 - 7:30 pm

 

Salisbury Zoo and Eastern Shore Reading Council have partnered with professors from Salisbury University, and Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset libraries to offer a FREE fun night where children will learn about zoo animals through literacy activities. 

 
* Event is rain or shine.
* Activities will be offered for preschool (3-4 year olds), primary students (K-2nd), & intermediate students (3rd-5th).

*This is a great way to Avoid the Summer Reading Setback and get information on Summer Reading programs from local libraries.
*All children must be accompanied by an adult.

2012 marks the bicentennial of the most forgotten war in America's history, the War of 1812. Also know as the Second War for American Independence, Jeff Korman, of the State Library Resource Center, talks about Maryland's role in the War of 1812.

The Top 20 Feeder Birds in the Mid-Atlantic Region
Discover the top 20 birds that visit feeders based on data collected by Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Project Feeder Watch.  You will learn about identification, distribution, and the food preferences of these 20 birds.

Pine Needle Basket Making
Learn the technique of making pine needle baskets for your home or to give as gifts. Local pine needles are used to create fragrant and lovely pieces of art.  Native American artist, Dawn Manyfeathers will instruct this class.  Please call the Princess Anne Library to register at 410-651-0853.

An Exploration of Decoy History
Whether used as hunting tools, examined as historical artifacts, or admired as works of art, decoys are inseparable from their historical context.  This lecture presents some of the many wildfowl carving traditions from around the world.
