Riverbank Photography Newsletter

Greetings!

Welcome to my very first e-newsletter.  I'm really excited to get this off the ground. Thanks for starting on this journey with me.

It's hard to believe that summer is here.  This particular summer is marking a few huge transitions in my professional life.

A few weeks ago I said goodbye to my career as a Registered Nurse. Although I will always keep my RN license, my husband and I decided it was becoming too challenging to work as an RN, run a business, and be a great mom and wife.  I felt as though I was being pulled in too many directions.

I also stepped away from youth sports photography this past spring.  I'm excited to focus (pun intended) on the photography that allows me to be creative and connected.  My emphasis will be on maternity, babies, families (young and mature), high school seniors and children as well as adults with special needs.

Check out my June promotion at the bottom of this newsletter. This is a great time to book an easy session for your kids - but hurry, the space is limited.

June is also a great month to book a high school senior session - it's not too hot yet and you can check it off of your ever-growing list of things to do for your child's senior year.

Please feel free to pass this email along to anyone that you think might find it useful or interesting.

Thank you,

Darcy Pace

Image of the month ... taking a closer look.

I had so much fun photographing this mom and baby at a workshop in Seattle recently.  I happened to click the shutter button at just the right time to capture this adorable picture.  I love images that are cropped in, or "tight" as we say in the photography world.  As I look at photographs, I'm drawn to pictures that are close up or zoomed in.  It allows me to feel connected to the subject and to truly enjoy the subject at hand, not the external distractions around the subject.  This particular shot highlights a close connection between mom and baby.

Photo Tip of the Month

Although not all ages can handle a close-up shot, all children certainly can.  This is a good exercise to try on your own kids, grandchildren or young neighbors.

A common mistake parents make while taking pictures of their children is to have too many distractions in the picture, or too much background.  If the background doesn't support the story of the picture, move in closer to eliminate the unnecessary space around your subject.  A close up shot of a child's face has a much bigger impact than a typical snapshot from across the room.

Your exercise this month is to move in closer.  First, take a picture of a child from where you would normally stand.  Then, take a step closer ... and another step closer and then take another picture.  Compare your results and see which one you like better.

Quote of the Month

A photograph is like a recipe - a memory the finished dish.
