Greetings!
Much work stress is caused by feelings of overwhelm and paperwork and if you are self employed and entrepreneurial like me, you most likely wear all the hats of your business or are understaffed.
As a service to our friends and clients, this month I teamed up with Ruth Lundi, professional organizer at RuthMultiTasks.com and together we did a Time Management and Organization Make-Over for one of our Topanga home-based businesses.
Dianne Porchia presented time management for creative personality types that struggle with procrastination, overwhelm and staying focused on their goals. Ruth Lundi presented how to minimize paperwork and utilize free on-line and 'cloud' technology for organizing your business.
In this presentation Dianne and Ruth video-taped their make-over session with April Hinkle, Director of Marketing & Promotion at Birthwell LA to help get her on track and organized at work thereby reducing stress and balancing her life and work for better health, wellness, productivity and enjoyment.

TENSION HEADACHES
AKA Stress Headaches
Most Common Type of Adult Headache
Approximately 88 percent of woman and 69 percent of men experience tension headaches at least once. Although these headaches happen to people of all ages, they are most frequent in those between the ages of 20 to 50. A headache can last from a half-hour to several days and may recur often.
Tension type headaches, unlike migraines, are not accompanied by sensitivity to light or sound, nor cause visual disturbances, aura, nausea or vomiting.
Tension headaches are usually triggered by some type of environmental or internal stress. The most common sources of stress include family, social relationships, friends, work, and school.
Headaches may be a result of stress from a chemical, environmental, emotional or physical source or any combination thereof. For instance, headaches that may be due to hormonal fluctuations or even the candles used for meditation and relaxation. It is advisable to use lead free wicks and candles that are made of soy or bees wax. I prefer to diffuse essential oils rather than burn incense or scented candles.
Read what Dr. Mercola says about tension headaches.
Some metaphysical proponents believe tension headaches might indicate an inability to express or receive unconditional love and acceptance, or their opposite, which is holding onto hate, anger and rejection. Louise Hay, author of You Can Heal Your Life, says headaches revolve around self-criticism, fear and invalidating the self. Daniel R. Condron, author of Permanent Healing suggests headaches and migraines could be from feeling pressured by factors that seem out of control, or conflict between "right" and "wrong."

HOLISTIC APPROACH
In working with clients with tension headaches I find a holistic approach is most effective when it includes:
Oxygenating the blood and brain through breathing deeply for several minutes while lying down
Essential oils or Tiger Balm rubbed on the back of neck, temples or under nos

Hydrating your body with several glasses of water
Acupressure points on hands and ankles

Floating At Topanga Retreat When clients come to the Topanga Retreat for holistic stress reduction, they also get to experience a unique healing amenity, called the Floating Bed.
The Floating Bed is a teepee-shaped structure that hangs from a large oak tree on my hillside property. Enclosed by mosquito netting, white canvass cover, memory foam mattress pad and cushy pillows, the Floating Bed provides an ideal setting to decompress, de-stress, relax and even slumber after a a holistic stress reduction session. Especially when our session has included accessing deep levels of the subconscious through somatic dialogue and inner child healing work, I like to send my clients out to the Floating Bed to journal, relax and further integrate our work together before getting in their car and driving off for the rest of their day.
As soon as people get into the Floating Bed they immediately feel a sense of inner calm, peace, relaxation and safety, like being rocked and cradled in your mother's arms. Clients are invited to relax, rejuvenate and float while safely enjoying all the sounds, smells, sights and fresh air of nature. The Floating Bed is an excellent tool for Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT), Vestibular Motion Therapy (VMT), and is very effective for children of Autism, ADD and ADHD.
