LOBBY_DAYSpringfieldSpring into Action:

CTPF, CTU, RTAC, CPAA Organize Coordinated Lobbying Effort in Springfield

The Chicago Teachers Union is coordinating a joint lobbying effort for members of the Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund (CTPF), Chicago Teachers' Union (CTU), the Retired Teachers Association of Chicago (RTAC), and the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association of Chicago (CPAA).

The union will offer transportation and support to members willing to travel to Springfield, Ill., Wednesday, May 16, to call attention to the issue of fair funding for CTPF pensions. The group is also considering adding lobby days on May 8 and May 24.

Chicago's Teachers Deserves Fair Funding

CTPF members deserve fair funding from the State of Illinois. Currently CTPF receives 2 cents for every State dollar allocated to the Teachers' Retirement System (TRS), which serves downstate and suburban teachers and retirees.

Executive Director Kevin B. Huber discussed the funding inequity during his recent Testimony to the Illinois Senate Pensions and Investments Committeee. Now is the time for members of CTPF, CTU, RTAC, and CPAA to reinforce the fair funding message by offering personal testimony directly to Illinois legislators from our united membership.

Lobby days will bring our message directly to Springfield and  help legislators understand the critical importance of fair funding for Chicago's teachers.

The CTU will provide motorcoach transportation to Springfield, leaving from a central Chicago location, early in the morning on May 16th. The group is expected to return to the Chicago area around 7:30 p.m.
