Dress Code Clarification
by Paul Combs, Elementary Principal

It is our school policy that all students in Pre-toddler through grade 8 wear the official ISC school uniform when attending school.

Purpose and Objectives:

Our policy on school uniform is based on the belief that school uniforms:

  • promote a sense of pride in the school;
  • engender a sense of community and belonging towards the school;
  • are practical and smart;
  • identify the children with the school;
  • prevent children from coming to school in fashion clothes that could be distracting in class;
  • make children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;
  • are regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by parents; and
  • are designed with health and safety in mind.

While it is true that there will be a new school uniform in August of next school year (2012-13), the current school uniform will continue to be accepted as part of the official school uniform. In addition, students are permitted to wear their "Truly International" t-shirts from Pre-Toddler to grade 8. Also permitted as part of the official school uniform are the ISC warm up suits, Booster Club t-shirts and sweaters (as long as it has the ISC's official logo on it) , as well as the ISC sweaters and coats that are sold by our uniform supplier.

The ISC athletic and cheerleading uniforms may not be worn except when deemed appropriate by each division principal. Nor can pullovers, sweaters or coats e worn that are not sold by our official uniform suppliers:

Balaxê Uniformes - 3242-4466
Address: Av.
Iguaçu, 3977 - Água Verde

Mallorca Uniformes - 3273-2206
Address: Via Veneto, 1074 - Santa Felicidade

Thank you for your cooperation.

NJHS  Induction Speech by Ms Bertille

When speaking about people who made a difference, some names come to mind immediately: Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Charles Darwin, Einstein, Shakespeare, Santos Dumont, Da Vinci, Oscar Niemeyer, and Zilda Arns.

None of them need to be introduced because they had a crucial and significant role in the world. They fought against injustice and led by example, inventiveness, and their pioneering spirit. The legacy of these personalities cannot be denied, because they established new paradigms in their areas of action and promoted change in the world; change for the better.

Peer Tutoring

by Bill Tolley

I am happy to announce that peer tutoring is now available to all students in the secondary and elementary divisions, in all subjects. It's not just about Humanities anymore. We have recruited a core of 25 peer tutors in grades 9-12 who are available to tutor both in person and online via Skype on a variety of schedules.

Changes to ISC Soccer Field

For the past month, the ISC soccer field has been going through a major change necessary for improvement and expansion. The old field was non-regulation size, designed for 8 players including the goalkeeper. With the expansion of the field, it is now regulation size and will accommodate regular 11 player teams. In addition, a new species of grass has been planted, called Bermuda grass. This is the same grass used in professional soccer fields such as Atlético Paranaense's Arena.  In addition, seating for fans will be built alongside the field.

The project is expected to be finished in June. In order to give the new grass time to mature, the soccer field to be available for games in the beginning of next school year.

BraMUN

In March, ISC high school students and their advisor traveled to Salvador for the 7th annual Brazil Model United Nations (BRAMUN) Conference held at the Iberostar Hotel and Resort. For four days, they participated as U.N. delegates, debating issues and working to pass resolutions before the U.N. General Assembly.

AASSA Educator's Conference in Quito

by Monica Heinrichs, Music Teacher

The 2012 Association of American Schools in South America (AASSA) Educators' Conference was held in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Quito is the second highest capital city in the world; approximately 2900 meters above sea level. It is a picturesque city nestled in the Andes Mountains corridor and surrounded by 13 volcanoes, some of them still active today.
