Safety First!
Recently the school administration has observed multiple incidents in which ISC community members have been careless in adhering to our safety procedures. If the members of our community continue to ignore our school's safety procedures we fear someone may get seriously injured. The safety of our children is paramount so it is very important that ALL drivers, parents and students comply with the ISC drop-off and pick-up procedures as described below.
ISC Drop-Off and Pick-up Procedures
- Do not exceed 10km per hour when driving through the drop off and pick-up areas, including cars driving on the outside lane to ECC or the outer parking lot areas. Cars in the drop off area need to especially take care when pulling out into the outside exit lane.
- While driving, refrain from talking on the cell phone or any other distractive behaviors which may cause an accident.
- Some individuals are exiting vehicles in the area between the gate and the drop-off area. Wait until your car is in one of the six unloading docks before allowing your child(ren) to exit or enter the car.
- Students are to exit or enter the vehicle on the right side of the vehicle only.
- Adults must remain in the car when students are being dropped off. If you wish to assist your child in exiting the car then you need to park in the parking lot.
- Students should have their bags inside the car in either the front seat/floorboard or back seat/floorboard so that they do not have to open the trunk or rear hatch of the car.
- When entering the drop off area in the morning and pick up area in the afternoon drivers are requested to not stop until they have gone to the farthest available space. This will allow us to keep traffic flow moving and cars will not have to unnecessarily wait in line.
The attached map indicates the proper car direction flow for traffic and parking. Please take note that if you exit out gate 2 you must always turn right and drive around the round-a-bout in lieu of a left hand turn. Feel free to contact any member of the ISC administration if you are not clear about any of our procedures. As we work together in adhering to our drop-off and pick-up procedures we can make sure that all of our ISC community, especially our students, remain safe.

I Love to Read Month - by Paul Combs, Elementary Principal
February is known in many places as the "love month", so for the past few years ISC has celebrated this month as "I Love to Read Month" in an effort to promote the love of reading with our students. The ISC Parent Teacher Association once again sponsored a visiting author from the United States during this month. This year's visiting author, Erin Dealey, has written and published two children's books, Little Bo Peep Can't Get To Sleep and Goldie Locks Has Chicken Pox! Mrs. Dealey, a former middle and high school English teacher, conducted workshops and gave presentations to all of our students during her recent two day visit to ISC. In addition, Erin presented to both parents and teachers after school on Thursday, February 9th. The ISC administration would like to take this opportunity to thank Erin Dealey for visiting our school, as well as Larissa Martins and the PTA for their support of our visiting author program.

Math Day
On March 7th Elementary students joined the Math Day, which is a part of "The World Educational Games" promoted to schools around the world. More than 5 million students, from 200 different countries have participated on activities.
The World Educational Games is a global challenge supported by Unicef that aims to get all students excited about learning through spelling (03/06), math (03/07) and science (03/08) games. In order to not affect the school calendar and class planning, Elementary teachers focused on the math competition during school hours, although students were encouraged to also participate at home.
On math games, students played in groups of four students from other countries and had one minute to answer the correctly the questions. As more right answer were given, better positions was reached by the students, the school and the country in the final ranking.
The games results will be released on next Bulletin issue.
