Truly International

by Paul Combs, Elementary Principal

ISC has a new school slogan that we believe captures the essence of who we are as an educational institution - Truly International. Each year the elementary school has a yearlong focus or theme and this year's theme in the elementary school reinforces our our new school slogan. We have nearly 20 countries represented in the elementary school alone, so indeed we believe we are truly international.

For a variety of reasons schools like ISC are effective in teaching, and therefore the students are also effective in learning.  I believe at the top of this list of reasons must be our ongoing response to foster cultural diversity within our 21st century classrooms. Our world has become closely intertwined and understanding differences is now more paramount than ever.  Regardless of where a person is from, their color of skin or language, we know that educators who welcome differences and can teach their students to do the same, will be providing their students with the best opportunity to learn and become successful in our rapidly changing world.

It is with this in mind that our teachers are actively seeking opportunities to teach multi-cultural values which can be connected to our own ISC 5R's of Lifelong Learning.  For it is only when our students are truly reflective, truly responsible, truly reliable, truly ready and truly respectful will we continue to be a school that is also Truly International.  It is this value system that as parents I am asking you to also continue to teach and support with your own child(ren).

Our teachers are looking for students who are deserving of one or more of the attached 5R buttons. Hopefully your child will soon receive one or more buttons for their extraordinary efforts to display the ISC 5R's within their daily lives. Thank you for supporting and reinforcing with your child(ren) our ISC 5R's and this year's elementary theme - Truly International.

IB Results - Congratulations to the Class of 2011

One of ISC's measures of academic success is the overall result of the International Baccalaureate examinations session conducted in our students' final year of studies. Our senior students sit for these IB exams in the month of May each year. These IB subject exams are scored externally and the grade awards are reported in early July. The IB grade awards also reflect performances on internal assessments such as oral examinations and science laboratory investigation reports, ISC has enjoyed a high pass rate for the full IB Diploma in recent years and the results for the Class of 2011 were again strong.
