What is Tencel?
Tencel is a biodegradable man-made fiber derived from wood pulp, a renewable resource.
The pulp is harvested from trees that have been planted on land unsuitable for food crops or grazing.
The process used to turn wood pulp into yarn is environmentally friendly. In what is referred to as a "closed loop" system, the solvent used to produce Tencel is continually reused, thus minimizing the amount of water and energy needed to produce new fiber.
Our 8/2 Tencel creates a fabric that is soft and silky, strong, cool, and absorbent. Featured in our Tencel Huck Lace Scarf kit and ideal for knitting, weaving and crochet. |
Why Cotton is King Cotton is the world's most popular natural fiber.
The fruit of the plant, better known as the cotton boll, provides the fiber - the fiber which the ancients called "white gold" because it was so valuable.
Successful cultivation of cotton requires a long frost-free period, plenty of sunshine, and moderate rainfall, usually from 24 to 48 inches. However, lots of the cotton grown today is cultivated in areas with less rainfall than cotton needs, so 70% of cotton crops are irrigated.
Cotton is cultivated in over 180 countries around the world with China, Brazil, India, Pakistan, the USA and Uzbekistan accounting for more than 80% of total production.
Cotton Clouds is the world's leader in providing you with quality cotton yarns and fibers for all your knitting, weaving, spinning & crochet! |
