Become a Member!

On November 4th, PBF will hold its annual membership meeting reviewing the past year, planning for the new one and approving a new elder and budget. In order to vote, you MUST be a  member of the church. Not sure if you are a member?  Just email Heidi Evans at heidi.evans@peninsulabible.org. We found several people listed as "attenders" in our database and sent them an email last week.

If you are not a member, and would like to become "official," please attend our Fall New Members Dinner and Seminar set for October 21st at 4 p.m. in the Fireside Room. Childcare is provided. Only one meeting on one night is now required for membership. You will hear a brief history of the church, our beliefs, how we are governed, and take a tour of the building. You will also meet our Elders. At the end of the night, you will be asked if you would like to join the church. If so, you will need to sign this document and be welcomed into the Body of Church on October 28th.

Would you like to be included? Please email Heidi Evans here.

judyJudy Bertolini to head Community Life
Judy Bertolini
JUDY BERTOLINI

Judy Bertolini took the reins this week as our Community Life Coordinator. Please welcome her to this key role in the life of PBF, although she certainly isn't a new face to the congregation.

Judy and her husband, Steve, have attended PBF for 19 years. They have two children. Caleb, 19, attends Whitworth College in Spokane and Ariana, 14, attends Central Kitsap Junior High.

Over the years, Judy has been very active at PBF, from participating in MOPS and women's ministry to teaching third- through sixth-grade programs. For years, Judy volunteered for various vacation bible schools. For the last two years, Judy volunteered in our toddler room.

The family also hosted two separate Basque students as part of the Summer in the USA program. Last summer, Judy spent many hours preparing scrapbooks that the Basque students took home, recording the highlights of their trip to America.

Before working for PBF, Judy worked for two decades as a Mary Kay consultant. She reached a level within the company where she could either take on the duties and time demanded of directors or she could depart. She chose to invest time in her family instead.

Judy will be responsible to make sure things run smoothly on Sunday mornings ensuring volunteers are in place and most of all that coffee is served. She will also assist with special events like our upcoming New Members Seminar. Judy will also eventually complete administrative tasks for Care Groups, a key role as PBF enter the 40 Days of Solidarity with Poor.

40 Days of Solidarity with the poor
  • Do you want to take The Challenge, change your perspective, and deepen your faith and understanding?
  • Are you ready to participate in 40 Days of Solidarity with the Poor?
  • Do you need to register for a group, get a book, or seek more information?

Inspire me with your blog I need a care group assigned

We are so excited about the adventure we have before us here at PBF. We are gathering in groups to begin a spiritual journey set forth in the book A Place at the Table: 40 Days of Solidarity with the Poor. The book was written by Chris Seay, a church planter, author and third-generation Baptist pastor who also wrote Advent Conspiracy

In Place at the Table, Seay challenges readers to rediscover what Jesus is saying to us regarding the way we live and the way others live. Seay asks readers to eat like the poor for forty days in solidarity with a much-neglected group of people, and to donate the money they save on groceries to a charity. Participants don't go it alone. A Place at the Table includes a short chapter for each of those forty days with scripture, reflections, prayers, encouragement, and tips for engaging the whole family in the process. Learn more about the program here.

Here at PBF, we are about to join this journey of discovery. A journey to listen to God's voice, to pray for the poor, especially the people of the Dominican Republic, and to join together as a body to completely renew our focus on Jesus. Our prayers and funds will be directed toward the charity I Love Baseball, which provides education and food in addition to baseball training. Based in the Dominican Republic, the program stabs at the heart of other sports programs that give children a one-in-a-hundred chance of playing professional sports while robbing them of the chance to receive an education and learn skills to be productive adults.

As a part of this renewal, we are asking that you:

  • Join a care group that will study and discuss what God has to say to us regarding the poor and our attitude toward them.
  • Begin a 40-day fast where we eat foods that poor people in the Dominican Republic would eat. We begin the fast October 8th. Sundays are feast days. Feel free to eat whatever you would like. Our fast will end on Thanksgiving Eve when we will have a Thanksgiving Eve service followed by a pie social. We will also be taking a special offering at this service for the Dominican Republic.
  • Communicate with us on Facebook or our blog while on this journey. We will post recipes, and comment regarding how the journey is going. We are anxious to hear from you all because we know that if we take the time to listen, God will speak to us clearly, both as individuals and as a church.

ARE YOU READY FOR THE CHALLENGE? REGISTER HERE.

Phil Downer
PHIL DOWNER

Kitsap Outreach invites members of our congregation and their friends to attend the 27th Annual Kitsap County Prayer Breakfast at 6:30 AM Thursday, October 18th, at the Silverdale Beach Hotel. The event is open to believers and nonbelievers alike.

Our own Pastor Brent James will be one of the program participants. The featured speaker is Phil Downer, a former machine gunner who served in Viet Nam with the United States Marine Corps in 1967 and 1968. He went on to pursue a career in law, but left his position as a senior partner in a mid-sized law firm to serve as President of the Christian Business Men's Committee for a decade. A popular national speaker, Phil has spoken at events such as Iron Sharpens Iron and Promise Keepers.  Phil has been featured twice on Focus on the Family and, along with Mike Wilkins, is the subject of Day of Discovery's 2010 documentary "The War Within: Finding Hope for Post-Traumatic Stress."

Make a reservation for the event by mailing in a form, available Sunday at the Welcome Desk, or online at www.breakfastoutreach.org. Cost for the breakfast is $20 per person. For information call John Taylor at 360-779-8510 or our own elder Carl Johnson at 360-908-1124.
