Ted Berney re-elected elder

Following the special congregational meeting last Sunday, August 5, Ted Berney was elected to a second term as elder of PBF.

Berney, Ted
TED BERNEY

Berney was a high school teacher and football and track coach for many years in Bremerton. Fourteen years ago, he helped establish a branch of Royal Family Kids Camp here at PBF. Since then, he has served as director of the program, which has provided a loving, summer camp experience for nearly a generation of local children who have suffered neglect and abuse.

Summer in the USA
thanks PBF for its support

Thanks for making our Basque students feel so loved and welcomed. Host families have a new son or daughter to love in the Basque Country. Please continue to pray for our Basque students as seeds were planted and hearts are being stirred. If you are interested in hosting a student next summer, please email Bobbi Barrutia.

solidrockSolid Rock
Thanks Solid Rock Volunteers

With your help we provided an anything-but-typical summer day camp experience for 108 kids from July 17th through 19th. We combined forces with Silverdale Baptist Church to coordinate and host this incredible event. Most important, SIXTY volunteers gave their time and talent to make this happen. In addition staff members put in countless extra hours so we could offer a combination of sport skills, life skills and the Love of Jesus to so many children. We say a HUGE thanks to the following volunteers from the PBF family:

  • Amelia Aylsworth
  • Taylor Berg
  • Jim Brown

Sending Love to David Reed

David in hospital A 9-year-old child in our PBF family, David Reed, was recently diagnosed with a tumor in his brain stem that is inoperable.

The family shares the following on their Caring Bridge site:

David has been dealing with an undefined illness since fall of 2011, if not sooner than that. Until recently, all tests have returned negative, inconclusive, and frustratingly pointed to no answers as to what has been making this sweet boy so sick. After a week inpatient at Mary Bridge Hospital, again, no answers. August 2 he was scheduled for a head and neck MRI, ordered by the pediatric neurologist. This is where the brain tumor reared it's ugly little head. David was promptly admitted to Mary Bridge Hospital once again to take action against this antagonist. August 3, David underwent 4 hours of surgery to remove the tumor. Unfortunately, the tumor has grown inside of the brain stem itself, rendering it inoperable. There was a small overgrown area that was surgically removed and sent for further pathology and inspection. Prognosis is heavily reliant on pathology results, and the waiting is going to be extremely difficult. There is a pending referral to a pediatric oncologist who will formulate a plan of action which will undoubtedly include radiation therapy at the least.

At least for a few more days, the family is waiting for a treatment plan, and don't have a clear idea what they will need in the coming weeks. But they will clearly need support. As they develop a better idea of their needs, PBF would like the congregation to be able to provide assistance with meals, or in other ways as they become apparent. If you would like to help them, we ask that you click here to enter your contact information in a form on our website. We will contact you when we have a better idea of what is needed.

In addition, this weekend, we will begin collecting candy and cards for David, who has quite a sweet tooth. If you could bring wrapped candy of any type, we will gather it together to present to him. Even better, we ask that you bring cards filled with well wishes and photos of your family, so he can see how many people are praying for him. The jar will be available in the Cascade Foyer near the Welcome Desk beginning Sunday morning.
