It's a camptastic week at PBF

Summer is an incredible time for serving God in our church. Our members are playing key roles this week in the camps below. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will be present with the participants and their leaders as they learn, grow, and care for each other:

  •  Junior Camp: Right now,  more than 50 grade-school-age students are enjoying Camp St. Albans and learning about nature, one another and the love of Christ.
  •  Royal Family Kids Camp: On Monday, more than 40 chidlren who are receiving services from the Department of Family and Child Services will gather at PBF to embark on a weeklong camp experience. They will enjoy a birthday party, take part in traditional camp experiences and enjoy safety and  incredible love.
  • Summer in the USA: Students from the Basque country of Spain will stay with host families, many from our congregation, to learn English, more about life in America, and life in a Christian home. They will arrive  Wednesday and return July 27th. Please welcome them.

Ladies BUNCO Night

Ladies, join us at 7 p.m. July 13th in the Log Cabin for a fun night of fellowship. Bring a friend. It's time to have fun, be a little silly, and leave the serious behind.

Hillbilly Youth Summer Camp

July 27-30, 2012

Summer Camp is for High School and Junior High students and is located along the Duckabush River at Wilderness Northwest. We will be tent camping in a forested area about 5 minutes from the river. There is a covered dining area, a shower house, indoor restrooms, and a field for games.

Camp provides an experience that is hard to replicate back home. Relationships are formed and friends made that can last a lifetime. This year we are anxious to open God's Word and discover how we can find joy in all circumstances.

Youth will experience: team games, teaching, sharing, hillbilly cat fishing, free time, alligator hunting, zip line, board games, low ropes course, fort building, worship, movie, basketball, cabin time, capture the flag, and night games.

Registration and cost

Early registration must be complete before July 1st and is $100. For additional students within the same family during the early registration period, the cost is $90. For general registration, completed between July 2nd and 15th, the cost is $110. No registrations are allowedafter July 15th. Cost includes: Camp shirt, transportation, camping fees, and meals on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Brown, Holdren's team wins state

in Destination Imagination

Two youth of PBF were recently honored with a first place finish at the state Destination Imagination competition and went on to compete at the global level. Larisa Brown, daughter of Jim and Carol Brown, and Karli Holdren, daughter of Dale and Rose Holdren, won in the "Coming Attractions" event.

Larisa explained that Destination Imagination is a creative-problem-solving competition. She has participated several times since the second grade.

For the "Coming Attractions" category, teams were expected to create a live skit that incorporated a technical effect and portrayed two cultures. The girls' group, which included four other people, created a skit called "Mushroom Impossible" that was a twist on a Mario Brothers videogame. They told the story of Princess Tangerina who is stolen by a Korean dragon and the efforts of the Korean and Mexican princes who attempt to save her. For a technical effect, the team made it rain during the presentation. Team members also wrote and performed original music and used the recording for the performance.

After winning first place at the state level, the team went on to the global competition in May in Knoxville, Tenn., and placed 37th of 85 entrants in their division.

Both girls attend Central Kitsap High School. Larisa just completed her junior year and Karli just finished her sophomore year.

During the global competition, Karli asked people from foreign teams to sign her t-shirt. "It's a great experience to get to know so many people and get together in a common way," she said.

The girls also enjoyed the Duct Tape Ball, an annual highlight of the event. Rather than wearing a "formal" outfit, they chose to create a team costume and dressed as the Avengers.
