Thanks from the Harris family

We recently received this communication from the Harris family. Ben Harris is spending his summer in New York state pursuing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study and perform opera. PBF recently hosted a benefit concert to help the family cover expenses as he will not be working during this time. The family asked us to share the following:

We are so humbled and grateful for the amazing family that PBF has been to us.  The generosity has been overwhelming, and we are so very blessed to have such a supportive church family.  Thank you!!!

For two youth mission trips

Our PBF youth will be attending not one, but two mission trips this summer. They dedicated their efforts June 2nd, raising the critical amount needed to allow them to travel.

Including a significant contribution made earlier this year for mission trips, the youth have raised $10,000 to reach their destinations. Much of that money came from the dinner and auction.

The teens worked with just 6 adults to serve an elegant pasta meal complete with garnishes to 84 patrons.

"They were very skilled," marveled auction coordinator Vernice Koemmpel. One girl sharpened the knives on a sharpening steel. At another point, it took just a few quick instructions and five young ladies were folding napkins with greater skill than many adults.

"It was amazing. They came to work," Vernice said.

This was followed by a dessert auction that, by itself, raised $1,200. For this portion, guests contributed funds to have the first chance to choose from a variety of desserts ranging from root beer and caramel corn to elegant cakes.

During both portions of the meal, guests bid on a numerous donated items from hours of babysitting to a boat ride. Vernice said the best part was opportunity the students had to meet and share with the church membership.

"For the first time, the adults got to be part of it. The kids dialogued with them. The kids were conscientious and attentive to their needs. They learned to serve. (The adults) loved how helpful and servant-like the kids were and the members learned about the kids' missions."

Vernice said it was a significant benefit to this new fund-raising format she hadn't considered before.

Youth are going to travel to Canada and San Francisco this summer. In Canada they will visit the homeland of the Ulkatcho Tribe on Anahim Lake. While there, they will be guests of the tribe and assist with a summer vacation bible school a teen program. In San Francisco, the youth will work with the San Francisco City Impact program to provide aid to children and families in the inner city.

To participate, each youth must promise to raise funds and work toward covering the $600 cost of his or her trip.

Swine time had by all at pig roast

The 5th Annual Pig Roast was hosted by Brent & Holly Nuckols at their home in Poulsbo.  Seventy five men of all ages attended for fun, fellowship, and outdoor dining on fresh, roasted pig and all the trimmings! "Elton" was prepared by Brent Nuckols and company, carved by Frank Jacobson, and served up by Dale Nuckols and friends. The sun was out in its glory, providing for lots of vitamin D and leisure activities, including the launching of water balloons with a homemade trebuchet, and testing skills with a giant-sized croquet set. Thanks to all the volunteers who made the event a huge success. We're looking forward to another event next year!

Sports Beyond was founded by Rick Walker in 1989 as a ministry to the community through Peninsula Bible Fellowship. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that puts on sports camps, clinics, leagues and seminars for youth between the ages of 8 and 18. Sports Beyond has ministered to thousands of youth over the past 23 years through these activities, providing a safe place for youth and positive Christian role models. Over 200 youth will be involved in leagues, camps and clinics this summer. Many youth, especially in the Bremerton area, cannot afford the travel, league and training fees to help them improve their game. Sports Beyond subsidizes student athletes so they can acheive their goals. More information cn be found at www.sportsbeyond.net or call Rick Walker 360-271-4831.
