Departing youth intern, Dale Nuckols,
shares his memories of PBF
 | | DALE NUCKOLS |
For nearly two years Dale Nuckols has endured a malfunctioning toilet, a temperamental washing machine and phone calls from emotional teens at "Oh-dark thirty," all in the name of serving God.
He began serving PBF as our youth intern in October 2010, and moved into the "slowly dying youth house." Since then, he oversaw worship in youth ministry, reviewed curriculum, assisted with camps and led a small group.
He will step down this week and move on to another phase of life, working and saving money for his upcoming marriage to Samantha Barker.
There were certainly less-than-ideal days for the youth intern. On one memorable occasion, Dale was the target of a youth prank. After a terribly long day, he walked into his room in the early hours to find it filled with more than 30 Solo cups, each one holding a fish. Well, at least a few of them. Many had tipped over, some on his bed, leaving behind crunchy dead fish and puddles of water.

"I opened the door, saw that, and said something I had to pray about later," he said.
He said what made it all worth it was the nights worship went well, and the Spirit was clearly present, which at times left the kids in tears and him physically shaking.
"(I loved) the feeling of the Spirit being there," Dale said.
He recalls a night at Spring Camp when a young person was overwhelmed with the presence of God, which was directing the youth to be more active and open in his faith at school.
"It was great helping him process that," Dale said.
The best part of being youth intern, Dale said, was "really being used by God and getting in the midst of the craziness. (I loved) being used by God to make the most of that moment. It made the dead fish worth it."

Sports Beyond was founded by Rick Walker in 1989 as a ministry to the community through Peninsula Bible Fellowship. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that puts on sports camps, clinics, leagues and seminars for youth between the ages of 8 and 18. Sports Beyond has ministered to thousands of youth over the past 23 years through these activities, providing a safe place for youth and positive Christian role models. Over 200 youth will be involved in leagues, camps and clinics this summer. Many youth, especially in the Bremerton area, cannot afford the travel, league and training fees to help them improve their game. Sports Beyond subsidizes student athletes so they can acheive their goals. More information cn be found at www.sportsbeyond.net or call Rick Walker 360-271-4831. |
