Sports Beyond was founded by Rick Walker in 1989 as a ministry to the community through Peninsula Bible Fellowship. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that puts on sports camps, clinics, leagues and seminars for youth between the ages of 8 and 18. Sports Beyond has ministered to thousands of youth over the past 23 years through these activities, providing a safe place for youth and positive Christian role models. Over 200 youth will be involved in leagues, camps and clinics this summer. Many youth, especially in the Bremerton area, cannot afford the travel, league and training fees to help them improve their game. Sports Beyond subsidizes student athletes so they can acheive their goals. More information cn be found at www.sportsbeyond.net or call Rick Walker 360-271-4831. |

What are the youth doing on their mission trips? Youth are going to serve on two different trips this summer. To participate, each youth must promise to raise funds and work toward covering the $600 cost of his or her trip.
- In Canada: 17 youths will travel to the homeland of the Ulkatcho Tribe on Anahim Lake. While there, they will be guests of the tribe and assist with a summer vacation bible school for about 40 children in kindergarten through fifth grade during the day and a teen program for 25 to 30 students at night. When they do get a chance to sleep, they will stay in the Anahim Lake Resort courtesy of the tribe.
- In San Francisco: 11 youth will work with the highly touted San Francisco City Impact program. The inner-city support organization offers tutoring, children's programs and food and clothing distribution for low-income families and individuals. Students will stay in living quarters designed for youth on mission trips.
How else can I help? The Youth Program is still looking for a truck, Suburban or similar vehicle that could be used to tow equipment and bags for either trip. Rental companies will not permit their vehicles to tow anything. If you can help, contact Youth Pastor Andy Chinn. |
