Annual Fall Cleanup at Jones Mountain Open Space Preserve!

Meet at Trailhead on Saturday, November 19th, at 9 a.m.

Read details below for what to bring . . .

Dear Friends,

Fall - trail from behind groupPlease join the New Hartford Land Trust and New Hartford Conservation Commission this Saturday morning at 9 a.m. for the annual fall cleanup at Jones Mountain.

If you haven't visited this beautiful Town Open Space Preserve, come out and see the old carriage roads lined with stonework and the view from the 'Bare Spot' (photo at top) while you help remove leaves from the old culverts and clean up the trails.

Paul Mahoney, Conservation Commission Steward of Jones Mountain and leader of the work day, says that the plan is to work till about noon. Come out for as much time as you can give. If you need to leave earlier, that will be fine. There will be tasks for all abilities: clearing leaves from stone lined gutters and culverts and clearing brush and the many blown-down limbs and trees resulting from 'Alfred'.

Please bring a leaf rake or steel rake and water. Be sure to wear appropriate clothes:  work gloves, jeans, and boots or sturdy shoes. If you have a gas-powered, backpack leaf blower, please bring it along.

Meet at the trailhead on Steele Road about 1+ miles from the intersection of Town Hill Road (Route 219) at the Beekley Library. You will see parking on the left as you travel up Steele Road. Please park perpendicular to the road. For more information, please call Paul at 860-309-5724 or e-mail us at newhartfordlandtrust@yahoo.com.

We hope to see you on Saturday or at future work days and programs. Watch for more e-news on upcoming walks and talks.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
