Dear Friends, |
Please join the New Hartford Land Trust and New Hartford Conservation Commission on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. to help with the annual fall cleanup at Jones Mountain. If you haven't visited this beautiful Town Open Space Preserve, come out and see the old carriage roads lined with stonework and the view from the 'Bare Spot' (photo at top) while you help remove leaves from the old culverts and clean up the trails.
Paul Mahoney, leader of the work day, says that the plan is to work till about noon. Of course, if you need to leave earlier, that will be fine. There will be tasks for all abilities: clearing leaves from stone lined gutters and culverts and clearing brush and blown-down limbs and trees from recent high winds.
Please be sure to bring water, appropriate clothes, work gloves, and boots or sturdy shoes. If you have a gas-powered, backpack leaf blower, please bring it along. Fuel will be provided. Also needed will be leaf rakes and steel rakes.
If you are very skilled and experienced with a chainsaw, please bring one along with appropriate safety equipment. Paul will determine chainsaw use. The trailhead is on Steele Road just about 1+ miles from the intersection of Town Hill Road (Route 219) at the Beekley Library. You will see parking on the left as you travel up Steele Road. Please park perpendicular to the road.
We hope to see you on Saturday or at future work days and programs. Watch for more e-news on upcoming walks and talks.
Happy Thanksgiving!
