Amherst Railway Society, Inc. has done it again. As in the past, three buildings at the "Big E" in W. Springfield was chalk full of model rail set ups, dealers, information, programs, etc. We did get to walk around alittle bit from time to time, see old friends, and make new friends but barely scratched the service of what there was to see and learn. It would take you at least two days to throughly visit and see all that is available. We understand that the gate count for the two days was well over 20,000 people.
The Flying Yankee had a great location almost in the center of the main building and just up from the Hobo Railroad booth. Special thanks to Stew Park, Doug Ferguson, Joe Karas, Steve Taylor, and Patricia Taylor for all their assistance in "manning" the Flying Yankee booth. There was a lot of interest in what was happening, how far along the restoration is, when did we plan on getting the Flying Yankee on the trucks, etc. Information was handed out while quite a few people made donations in order to receive a copy of the Fritz Wetherbee disc. and a second disc. with 147 individual pictures of the Flying Yankee. Steve Taylor has made these discs. up and are available upon request. $10 donation for the Fritz Wetherbee and Bob Morrell Disc. $25 donation for both the Fritz Wetherbee Disc. and the second disc. with 147 pictures of the Flying Yankee.

Dear friends of the Flying Yankee,
Enclosed please find some photographs and a narrative detailing some of our experiences with the Flying Yankee. We would be happy to have you share this with your e-mail readers. We have all of the original photographs, ticket, and postcards reproduced herein.
Has anyone thought of compiling a book containing personal experiences and observations of the Flying Yankee? To date, you must have amassed quite a collection of those. If there is enough interest, it seems to be a possibility to be explored.
Sincerely,
Jane and Robert Temple
Thank you so very much Mr. & Mrs. Temple. We have received a few stories, observations, etc. but not quite enough. The ones received are reprinted here in the newsletter. About every 3 months we do send out a form separately requesting what ever information that people are willing to share. Yes, I do have a publisher very anxious to publish a book regarding the Flying Yankee from start to present. So please, anyone, send us your observations, memories, any information, etc.
Due to the length of this story, it will be sent to you under seperate cover, Monday (2/14/11) along with an attached form for any others of you wish to write. What ever your recollections, thoughts, and or ideas - please submit them to the Flying Yankee Restoration Group, Inc. If you wish to email, click on flyingyankee@usa.net. |
