MAHEC Invites Physicians to Transgender Health Summit

Southeastern Transgender Health Summit  

MAHEC Biltmore Campus 

 

This innovative two-day educational event on August 24-25 will be preceded by a pre-conference faculty reception and film viewing followed by discussion on the evening of August 23. The pre-conference is free, but registration is required. The Friday-Saturday educational sessions will provide a collaborative learning environment for healthcare providers, business leaders, educators, human resource professionals, transgender individuals and other interested community partners. The primary purpose of the summit is to provide accurate, evidence-based information to physicians and other providers who care for transgender persons. Conference presentations will focus on transgender health issues across the lifespan. For non-clinicians, there will be additional tracks specific to human resources and workplace policy issues, as well as a track for interested community members. Recording of July 19th Healthcare Reform Seminar Available 

Last Thursday (July 19) WCMS partnered with MAHEC, Van Winkle Law Health Care Reform Seminar Firm, and JPS for the first presentation in the Health Care Reform Seminar Series. This event titled The Supreme Court Ruling: Health Care Reform Survives & What It Means for Your Practice was held at MAHEC with 88 medical providers and their staff in attendance. Due to limited seating the event was also made available via live streaming. Presenters included Carolyn Coward, an Attorney with Van Winkle Law Firm, Terri Roberts, EHR Practice Support Coordinator with MAHEC, and Mary Williams Matthews, V.P. of Healthcare Services with Johnson Price and Sprinkle, PA. Upcoming seminars will be held at MAHEC on Wednesday, September 12, Thursday, October 11, and Thursday, November 8, 2012. The Foundation is WCMS' non-profit, charitable arm. The Foundation is well-respected and nationally recognized for its leadership and innovation in addressing issues of access to quality health care, disparities in health, and wellness and prevention for people in WNC. Our flagship program is Project Access, a comprehensive, volunteer primary and specialty physician network providing access to healthcare at no charge for low-income, uninsured residents. Another key program is the WNC Interpreter Network, which addresses disparities in health due to linguistic barriers.
