Message from Dr. Lisa Ladd at ABCCM |
Thank You for your volunteerism to our communities' free clinic at the ABCCM Doctor's Medical Clinic. In 2011, the clinic provided medical and dental care to over 8,000 Asheville-Buncombe County uninsured residents and over $4.1 million worth of health care. We have some available evenings for you to volunteer over the next few months as noted here. Please consider coming to the clinic for an evening for as much time as you have available. As you know the need in our community is great, and our patients greatly appreciate your service.

Medscape/WebMD Survey: Sharp Split Over Health Care Ruling
|
As did patients, doctors split right down the middle. Just over 49% approved of the Supreme Court's decision on the ACA. Just under 49% disapproved.
Even so, only 1 in 5 doctors believed the decision would lead to improved patient care. The rest said they didn't know or that it didn't apply to them.
Primary care doctors were most opposed to the decision, with 55.5% disapproving and 41.1% approving. Internists were the most in favor, with about 60% approving and 37.7% disapproving.
Some 34% of doctors would prefer a single-payer system. More than 25% of doctors said the health system could be improved by making it more market driven, and 24% of doctors think government should completely stay out of health care.

The Foundation is WCMS' non-profit, charitable arm. The Foundation is well-respected and nationally recognized for its leadership and innovation in addressing issues of access to quality health care, disparities in health, and wellness and prevention for people in WNC. We are committed to involving both community AND physicians in this work.
Our flagship program is Project Access, a comprehensive, volunteer primary and specialty physician network providing access to healthcare at no charge for low-income, uninsured residents. Another key program is the WNC Interpreter Network, which addresses disparities in health due to linguistic barriers.
