Former House Representative and friend of medicine Bruce Goforth is hosting a fundraiser for WNC politicians who support physicians and the practice of medicine in Western North Carolina. 


Where: Taylor Ranch

When: March 22nd, 7pm


Please make every effort to attend this important event to thank the legislators who played a vital role in passing tort reform as well as other key legislation important to WNC physicians and their patients.  Please encourage your colleagues to attend as well! A 2012 Physician's Guide to Thriving, Prospering and Succeeding Under Healthcare Reform  

The Van Winkle Law Firm will host a three part series on Health Care Reform for all WNC physicians featuring Clinical Integration, Developing and Expanding Opportunities Among Physician Practices, and Collaboration to Integration - Exploring the Spectrum of Physician/Hospital Relationships. Project Access Goes to San Francisco!
CEO Miriam Schwarz attended a Charity Care Affinity Group hosted and paid for by the Center for Health Care Strategies and Kaiser Permanente on March 6-7. Leaders of charity care systems from around the country gathered to discuss the future of charity care systems as insurance mandates take hold in 2014. Topics included exploring opportunities for charity care programs to help patients transition to newly available coverage options, identifying shifts in the composition of the uninsured population in 2014, and discussing strategic implications for programs that serve the uninsured. Powerpoint presentations and articles are available upon request. 
Three Local Hospitals Recognized in Statewide Ranking
Reporter Caitlin Byrd writes that Mission Hospital, McDowell Hospital and Angel Medical Center made top rankings statewide according to Business North Carolina magazine.

New Health Center Seeking Donated Items & Dollars

MAHEC, Mission Hospitals, and Buncombe County are excited to be working together to open a medical center in the Big Ivy Community of Barnardsville. The MAHEC Family Health Center at Big Ivy will serve the rural community by providing full spectrum health care and County services. The goal is to improve the overall health and well-being of this underserved area. There are a large number of rural elderly patients and medically isolated patients.


The Health Center plans to open in early spring, but it is in need of donations. If you or your office has any donations (see wish list) please contact Emily Diznoff. We are set up as a not-for-profit and will happily accept cash donations as well. Tax deductions apply for all donations. Click here for list of items.

The Foundation is WCMS' non-profit, charitable arm. The Foundation is well-respected and nationally recognized for its leadership and innovation in addressing issues of access to quality health care, disparities in health, and wellness and prevention for people in WNC. Our flagship program is Project Access, a comprehensive, volunteer primary and specialty physician network providing access to healthcare at no charge for low-income, uninsured residents. Another key program is the WNC Interpreter Network, which addresses disparities in health due to linguistic barriers.
