Again and Again

I am asked, "Is CHS accredited?"  Nearly every week someone contacts our office asking whether they may use veterans' benefits or a federal student loan to pay for their education at CHS.

How I wish that were possible!  In times when money is tight for many of us, the economy uncertain, pursuing higher education is a not a light decision.

Just recently, the military liaison at the S.C. Commission on Higher Education spent several days digging through fine print and consulting with others in an effort to add CHS to an approved list of schools which might receive such funding, to no avail.  For the record, this person was very reluctant to tell me no - they wanted our students to be able to receive assistance!

With all of the progress CHS has made in the past five years, what is the holdup?  The answer is very simple:  money.

Several of the criteria for accreditation are based on financial stability and sustainability.  Before an accrediting body puts their very large stamp of approval on a school, they want to be sure that school will be there and be solid for the students who decide to invest their time, tuition and future.

The fact is that nearly all institutions of higher learning in this country started with a large endowment.  CHS has always operated on a cash basis.  That means we are entirely free of debt (something most for-profit universities cannot claim), but it's going to take a significant dollar bump for us to take the next step forward.

Have you included CHS in your will?  Do you know someone who may wish to make a make a legacy gift?  Are you a member of The Hypatia Society?  Have you considered transferring assets to CHS?  Do you suggest that others support CHS?  Do you tell everyone you know that CHS is the best place in the world for the learning they've been seeking?

We've worked hard to demonstrate that we are worth your investment.  Now we need the Pagan Community and friends to do what it takes to keep this sparkling jewel available to all who seek learning for leadership, ministry and personal growth.

Late-breaking news:
Cherry Hill Seminary is very excited
to be hosting world-renowned historian Ronald Hutton, in a collaboration with the University of South Carolina, for a two-day conference next April 12-13, 2013.  Details to come, meanwhile make your plans to be in Columbia, S.C., during its most beautiful time of the year on a beautiful Jefferson-style historic campus.

New Look for Classrooms

Students and instructors have probably noticed a new look in our Moodle classroom system.  We have four new beautiful seasonal headers and a professional layout which clearly convey as soon as you enter Moodle that this is Cherry Hill Seminary.  The mastermind behind this transformation is Doug Cox, a mage of many artistic, editing, design, and computer-tech skills.  We are so grateful for this generous gift of Doug's talent and time!

Fall Parties Benefit Scholarship Fund

For those who heard about the Hypatia Society drive in the spring but just couldn't throw a house party then - fall party season is around the corner and contributions made during that drive will be put in a new scholarship fund.  What's not to like?
No time for a party?  Just sign up your friends for a membership and turn it all in as your party.  Prizes for the most people giving contributions, the most attending a party, and
most dollars raised.

Fall Festival-Goers: CHS Flyers Online

Many of you are good enough to ask for materials that you can put out at things like Pagan Pride Day, Pagan Unity Day and other local events.  Sometimes it's hard for us to keep up with your requests.  There are some great resources posted on our web site, however, which you are always welcome to download and print.

Turning the Wheel

It's hard to believe that Keri Alley has been working with Cherry

Hill Seminary for going on three years.  If you've enjoyed discussion on the CHS Facebook page, received your teacher's paperwork and instructions, or ordered a student ID card, you were probably interacting with Keri, even if you did not know it.  Keri began a new job this year which she just loves, but which has increased the demands on her already-busy life.  Keri will start transitioning out of her CHS position this fall, but will still be a part of our cherished CHS family.  Thank you, Keri, for your years of hard work and support!
