 Winter Conference Tomorrow
What is authenticity, and why is it important? How can relatively new religions create a sense of depth and authenticity without resorting to false historical claims? How can using folklore as a basis for ritual create some of that depth and authenticity? How can we adapt folklore, especially that outside our own cultural tradition(s), without violating ethical standards or being accused of cultural appropriation? Why is some cultural borrowing/ adaptation necessary in order to keep traditions alive?
Renowned scholar Sabina Magliocco, Ph.D., Professor of Anthropology at California State University, Northridge, grew up in Italy and the U.S. She has published on religion, folklore, foodways, festivals, Neo-Paganism, including "Witching Culture: Folklore and Neo-Paganism in America." She is a recipient of Guggenheim, National Endowment for the Humanities, Fulbright and Hewlett fellowships, and an honorary Fellow of the American Folklore Society.
The highly-acclaimed CHS Winter Conference takes place on the day before PantheaCon, in the same hotel (Doubletree Hilton in San Jose, CA). We are extending the early discount price for one more week. To register, click here. For more details, visit this page.
All are welcome to attend the Winter Conference, whether or not you are enrolled as a CHS student.
