From the President

Samhain and Thanksgiving have passed, the nights lengthen, and we settle in for Winter to await the rebirth of the Sun.  This is a time of family and friendships, giving and receiving, cooking and eating, singing and dancing.

We at CHS are thankful for the help we've had from our many volunteers over the past year.  Their generosity with their time and skills amply demonstrates their recognition of the value of our mission and their confidence in our ability to accomplish it.

We've had an eventful year, with changes in the Board, changes in faculty and administration, and refinement of our programs as we maintain financial viability while steadily moving towards accreditation.  You, too, can support CHS with your year-end donations, which we promise to put to good use.

One highlight is that we performed a ritual for Samhain at the American Academy  of Religion Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA, with much help from the good Witches of Dogwood Local Council of CoG.  Here's the altar they made, which did much to transform a hotel meeting room into a temple.

More recently, CHS had a strong presence at the Third People of the Earth Gathering at the Interfaith Center of the Presidio, with Valerie Cole, Patrick McCollum and myself representing CHS.

We wish you a warm, love-filled Yuletide season.

Aline (Macha) O'Brien, President
Board of Directors

2011 Catalog Released
We're pleased to announce that the 2011 Cherry Hill Seminary Catalog has been released!  We encourage everyone to read through the new catalog, as several important changes have been made.

We have combined the Pagan Advocacy and Leadership department and Public Ministry and Expression Department to create the Ministry, Advocacy, and Leadership department.

We have also combined the Nature, Deity, and Inspiration department and the Text, Tradition, and Interpretation department to create the Theology and Religious History department.

The Certificate of Chaplaincy has been relocated to the Pagan Pastoral Counseling department.

Within the new catalog, you will also find detailed requirements for each of our programs, admissions and registration instructions, full course listings, and more policies than you thought possible for Pagans!  Visit our website to read the catalog, and email us with any questions you have.

The Wild Gospel of Nature on YouTube
PinetreeStudents in the fall class Poetry and Politics: A Saunter With John Muir and Walt Whitman have immersed themselves in the writings of these two American icons.  Instructor Chris Highland has released as part of his YouTube video series a short video reading of John Muir.  You can view John Muir: The Wild Gospel of Nature on YouTube.

Chris describes the video as a "short and simple film, presenting wisdom from Chris Highland's first book Meditations of John Muir:  Nature's Temple, is the most popular of my video series on the Nature Chaplain Channel.  Muir has always seemed the best kind of naturally spiritual teacher since he was grounded in science, delighted in the smallest wonders, was constantly learning and loved to be wild!  With the joy of an adventuring explorer and the reverence of a sauntering (pagan) saint, Muir continues to offer environmentalists and those on spiritual paths (are they the same?) the wide appreciation of both the sanctuary and the classroom of Nature."
