8 Hands, 6 Countries, 12 Composers, 4 Locations, 1 Month - Serendipitous Synchronicity
We are beginning our 2010-2011 concert season with an exciting schedule of concerts whose programs run the gamut from piano to percussion, and from Schubert to Boucourechilev.
The programs offer the familiar and the more adventurous with each concert held in a different setting:
The collaboration between Dranoff Laureates Stephanie and Saar and the New World Symphony Percussion Concert will present Andre Boucourechilev's Archipel I, an "aleatroic" work for two pianos and percussion. The composer wrote around 40 different fragments for each performer that can be played at any order and repeated freely. Not for the faint of heart, but tremendously exciting.
The internationally known Dranoff Laureates Duo Hesse and Pauna will play as part of the German Weltklassik Goes Grand Piano series on Key Biscayne. Their duet repertoire includes Schubert, Grieg, Ravel and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Making the keys - and your souls - dance.
In a first for the Design District, Dranoff Gold Medal winners Seo & Kato and the Bergonzi String Quartet will make music that is both modern and accessible: Zimmerman, Berio, Ravel, Bernstein, Part and a rare performance of a Jerome Moross sonata for piano duet and string quartet.
The Steinway Gallery will host to Dranoff Bronze Medal winners Smolina and Mogilevsky from Russia. Theirs will be a program that features Stravinsky and Shostakovitch - they just played this in St. Petersburg, Russia, and they absolutely make you fall in love again. For audience members only, Steinway will offer a sale of select pianos - a rare occasion indeed. (More to come in later updates)
For tickets, please go to the calendar below. Make sure to get your VIP tickets for the November 4 concert early as they are limited.
Mostly, come and explore and have fun and support our artists.

THE DRANOFF BOARD
I would like to report yet another new member of our organization: Rise Kern has just joined our Artistic Advisory Board.
Despite her work with "big names" - Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Daniel Barenboim, the Pittsburgh Symphony with Mariss Jansons, and Yo-Yo Ma - Rise Kern is deeply interested in furthering new talent and creating performance opportunities. This is the nexus with Dranoff since the International Two Piano Competition is all about new talent. We are very excited to have Rise develop a Latin American tour and other concert opportunities for our winners and laureates. Almost 5 years with Columbia Artist Management and over 20 years with ICM Artist in New York have taken Rise Kern into every aspect of the world of talent representation, tour management and concert production: overseeing the production of selected touring attractions in the US and Latin America of major European and US orchestral ensembles, identifying residencies, liaison with artists, foreign managers and venues, ensuring accountability and tour profitability; placing artist in commercials and television. Her personal interests in music and languages are further indication just how authentically Rise lives her commitment to the arts.
